Logan/Beenleigh branch has made donations to Blue Care
Respite, Springwood ($600), and to Teenage Adventure
Camps Queensland ($500). Big thanks are extended to
members for their support with raffle ticket sales, which
enables the branch to make these donations.
A closing thought from the Branch: They haven’t found a
way to tax us for laughing yet, and let’s hope they never do.
It could get expensive.
NEAR NORTH COAST
Twenty-two branch members met at Suttons Beach,
Redcliffe, for the May meeting.
Mike Huddlestone and wife Glenys were welcomed to the
meeting. Mike and Glenys now own a motel opposite the
Redcliffe Hospital and live on site. Members discussed
options regarding this year’s Annual Christmas Luncheon
and on a show of hands, it was decided that Bramble Bay
Bowls Club would be the venue.
Peter Berger and wife Hilary have again taken to sailing the
ocean blue. Welfare news noted that Wal Taylor’s health
is getting worse. Warren Smithers is not 100% and usually
tries to attend meetings held closer to his home.
ROCKHAMPTON
The branch held its AGM and monthly meeting on
Wednesday 4 July. The AGM saw office bearers re-elected
for another term, including Barry Self as President, Dennis
Smith as Secretary, and Patricia Smith as Treasurer.

TOWNSVILLE
The branch held their AGM and monthly meeting on 4
July at the Townsville RSL. State President Mick O’Brien
attended both meetings. The elections saw Trevor Errington
installed as the new President, while John Urquhart and
John Cran continue in their roles of Secretary and Treasurer
respectively. Vice-President Bob Loveridge presented a
QRPA plaque to outgoing President Brian Bensley, and
thanked Brian for the time and effort he has put into the
position over the past decade.
It was noted that branch life member Ossie Cislowski had
been admitted to the Good Sheppard Hospice.
VAN DIEMENS LAND
Branch members met at Riverside Hotel, Launceston on
Saturday 23 June for their AGM and a monthly meeting.
The AGM saw most office bearers returned to their roles for
another twelve months, including Andy Beasant as President
and Secretary, and Jim Byrne as Treasurer.
The AGM weekend ended after a fine breakfast on the
Sunday morning. A great time was enjoyed by all.
VDL branch has a number of members who have suffered
health problems: Herman van Cauwenberg, Juli Hobbs,
Geraldine Byrne, and even Andy Beasant have had stays
in hospital in recent weeks. V-P Ian Johnston unfortunately
was sick the night before the AGM and was unable to attend.
Best wishes to all for a speedy return to good health.
Our next meeting is planned for Sunday 26 August at Ross.
There will be a ‘bring and share’ main course. Hosts Steve
and Vale will provide bread and snacks.
Welfare officers for the Rockhampton area are Noel
Boardman and Barry Self, and for the Yeppoon area: Cavill
Heywood and Tom Young.
At the meeting, Cavill Heywood confirmed there will be a
BBQ at the beach on 23 September. On the welfare front,
Noel Boardman advised he was feeling pretty good after an
operation to repair a left carotid artery valve, Norm Tomlin
advised he has been diagnosed as suffering from a problem
with his nervous system (CMT) for which there is no known
cure.
The branch meets on the first Wednesday of the month.
SUNSHINE COAST
The branch held their Annual Lunch in April which was
attended by 83 people. The food was of the usual very high
standard, which was attested to by the fact that not a single
complaint was received! All who attended had a great time.
Barry Shaw continues on the road to recovery; he has
recently had an interstate trip. Clarrie Blissner is also a
