LECARROW VILLAGE DESIGN STATEMENT
Roads & Parking:
• The turning lane into the village could
be improved by widening it. A portion
of the grass bank could be used to
widen the road. Turning out onto the
main road can be extremely dangerous.
A roundabout could be provided if the
road was widened.
• It is difficult to see if traffic is coming
from the village while pulling out of the
parking area at Coffey’s Bar and
Grocery.
• Some of the local roads need
resurfacing and upgrading as they are in
a bad state of repair due to recent works
in the village, including the new
treatment plant, as well as works that
are on-going.
• Road markings need to be upgraded.
• There is adequate car parking in the
village in the Harbour car park and at
St. John’s Community Centre.
• The Yew Tree restaurant has its own
parking but this is not marked out.
• The car park at the harbour presents a
poor image. The recycling bins detract
from the area and dumping occasionally
occurs adjacent to the bins.
Traffic Management & Pedestrian Safety:
• Traffic Calming measures are urgently
needed throughout the village as there
is a problem with speeding along the
back roads. Speed limits could be
reduced from the village to St John’s
National School.
• Traffic could be slowed in the village
through the use of rumble strips or
something else. The use of speed
bumps would be terrible for trucks etc.
• Footpaths should be provided
throughout the village:
⇒ From the village to the local soccer
club and pitches.
⇒ From the Harbour to the village
• A boardwalk could be provided at the
west side of the bridge adjacent to the
Mill. This bridge is too narrow for a
footpath and is dangerous for
pedestrians and cyclists.
• Due to the narrowness of the main road
through the village it may not be
possible to provide a proper kerbed
footpath. Therefore a brick footpath,
which is level with the road, would
allow trucks, tractors etc. the space they
need to get through, as well as allowing
cars to move over to allow other
vehicles to pass, while clearly outlining
that the brick space is for pedestrians.
• Some walkways should be provided,
