28 • Manufacturing Dunlop flights striking new TV ad Picture this – fast cars, amazing precision driving stunts and an impressive finale – no – it’s not the newest James Bond release, it’s the new Dunlop Tyres commercial that was recently created by Durban-based advertising agency, O’Donoghue & Associates. The commercial, which is currently being flighted on television channels in South Africa, sees a host of yellow Dunlop Tyre clad cars converging on the city of Cape Town to perform a series of impressive high-tech precision driving stunts that ultimately enable the cars to form the word ‘Dunlop’. The advertisement has met with positive feedback. Having recently rebranded their identity, Dunlop Tyres approached O’Donoghue & Associates to develop an advertising campaign that would be both memorable and unique. They were looking for ‘the big idea’ that would cut through advertising clutter and be unmistakably Dunlop; essentially separating them from other tyre brands.
