From the 2nd and 1st centuries BC stone vessels with zoomorphic<br />

handles were widely diffused throughout South <strong>Arabia</strong> (Shabwa,<br />

Qataban, Hadramawt, Najran . . .) and even East <strong>Arabia</strong> (Mleiha,<br />

ed-Dur, Dhahran . . .). They could be used to store food products,<br />

dates as here, cosmetics or coin hoards. Many lids belonging to this<br />

type <strong>of</strong> vessel were found at Qaryat al-Faw. 1 M. C.<br />
