Using CTD pr<strong>of</strong>iles <strong>of</strong> ρ(z), time-series <strong>of</strong> stability are calculated for each station (Figure<br />

3.35). The water column at <strong>the</strong> Mouth station is least stable, showing zero stability at<br />

times (when already mixed, i.e. isopycnal). Stability at Paddy's Rock and Bridgehaven is<br />

also low during tidal conditions, approaching zero at times. Mid/inner estuary stations<br />

exhibit significant stability even during tidal conditions due to <strong>the</strong> salt water trapped at<br />

depth in <strong>the</strong>se deep sections (e.g., Sheephouse Creek). The stable lower layer at <strong>the</strong>se<br />

stations may develop hypoxia, even when <strong>the</strong> mouth is open. When <strong>the</strong> mouth is open<br />

<strong>the</strong> innermost stations are entirely fresh and exhibit near-zero stability (Figure 3.35).<br />
