The funding from the Commonwealth<br />

will allow for the levies from<br />

developers already collected by<br />

the <strong>SMDA</strong> for affordable housing<br />

to be used to provide more<br />

affordable housing in the Redfern-<br />

Waterloo area for future projects.<br />

North Eveleigh<br />

During 2011/2012, North<br />

Eveleigh continued to serve as<br />

a popular location for the filming<br />

of advertisements and films as<br />

well as photographic shoots for<br />

magazines. The <strong>SMDA</strong> manages<br />

all filming and photography at<br />

North Eveleigh to ensure t<strong>here</strong> is<br />

no disruption or inconvenience to<br />

nearby residents and stakeholders.<br />

The Australian <strong>Government</strong>’s Housing<br />

Affordability Fund (HAF) has provided<br />

a grant of $7.2 million to the <strong>SMDA</strong><br />

for the development of at least 61<br />

affordable housing dwellings in North<br />

Eveleigh. The main aspects of the<br />

project include infrastructure works,<br />

remediation and the selection of a<br />

community housing provider to build<br />

and manage the affordable housing.<br />

Works will include:<br />

––<br />

Construction of a two way<br />

vehicle site entry in the location<br />

of the existing entry;<br />

––<br />

Construction of a two way<br />

road parallel to Wilson Street,<br />

between the site entry and the<br />

Carriage Workshop building;<br />

––<br />

Associated car parking,<br />

footpaths and landscaping;<br />

––<br />

Telecommunications, electricity<br />

distribution, sewage works,<br />

Redfern-Waterloo Heritage<br />

Interpretation Plan<br />

The Eveleigh Railway Workshops<br />

Interpretation Plan was endorsed<br />

by the Minister for Planning and<br />

Infrastructure on 8 February, 2012.<br />

The specific aims of the<br />

Interpretation Plan are to:<br />

––<br />

Guide and facilitate interpretation of<br />

the site’s heritage significance as a<br />

conservation process designed to<br />

sustain the site’s authenticity and<br />

character as the sites are developed;<br />

––<br />

Identify existing audiences and<br />

visitor experiences on the Eveleigh<br />

site, including workers, neighbours<br />

resident in the district, tourists<br />

and school groups, as well as to<br />

explore opportunities to enhance<br />

visitor numbers and experiences<br />

in each of these categories;<br />

– – Achieve enhanced public<br />

understanding of the history of<br />

the area and its significance to<br />

residents, workers and visitors<br />

by fostering active links with the<br />

community, as well as with tourism,<br />

education and recreation activities;<br />
