Connector: This student is responsible for finding connections between the text and the outside world. Connect
the reading to the following: his/her own life, happenings at school or in the community, similar events at other
times and places, other books or stories, other writings on the same topic, or other writings by the same author.
This job will require outside work.
Questioner: This student’s job is to write down 3 questions about the reading selection. Students should
ask/explain why they have this question and why they think this question is important. This job will be done
while reading in class.
Passage Master: This student’s job is to locate key sentences that the group should review. The idea is to help
others notice important parts of the text. Explain why you selected each passage. This job will be done while
reading in class.
Researcher: This student’s job is to share background information on topics related to the story. This
information should help the group better understand the text. This job will require outside work.
*Vocabulary Enricher: This student is responsible for finding especially important vocabulary in the story.
Vocabulary selected should focus on words that are unfamiliar, interesting, important, repetitive, funny, puzzling,
descriptive, vivid or those used in an unusual way. This job will be done while reading in class.
*Vocabulary Enricher will be a role in groups of 5 only. Eliminate this role for groups of 4 or less.
