Achievements<br />
Key developments in this area have been:<br />
Delivering the second annual CSP Coaches Conference in October <strong>2008</strong><br />
with over 140 coaches attending and taking part in 11 different development<br />
workshops<br />

The implementation of the <strong>SASSOT</strong> coach bursary scheme which has so far<br />
granted £14.5k towards 191 level 1, 2 and 3 qualifications costing a total of £38.5k<br />
The successful roll out of year one of the apprenticeship scheme in which 16<br />
young people are receiving sports related training and qualifications along with<br />
valuable work experience whilst attached to a number of local employers. This<br />
project is led by the Stoke on Trent s City Learning and Development Team<br />
Expansion and improvements to the coach database which has now been<br />
made available to all <strong>Staffordshire</strong> and Stoke on Trent Local authorities,<br />
NGBs and SSPs<br />
Further engagement with Business Link West Midlands and Skills Active<br />
via a Train to Gain employer engagement event in February <strong>2009</strong>. This saw<br />
representatives from Local authorities, NGBs, SSPs and the private sector<br />
being signposted to mainstream funding opportunities<br />
The completion of the West Midlands Middle Management training programme<br />
which saw 12 staff from across <strong>Staffordshire</strong> obtain an ILM level 5<br />
qualification and many more undertake 360 and facet 5 studies<br />

The introduction of a North <strong>Staffordshire</strong> Coach Support Network which<br />
along with Stoke on Trent City council, Newcastle SSP, <strong>Staffordshire</strong> University,<br />
Newcastle College, Keele University and <strong>Sport</strong>s Coach UK provides<br />
a joined up approach to coach recruitment and training in the area.<br />
Plans for the next 12 months<br />
The focus for <strong>2009</strong>/10 is building on the success of the projects developed as<br />
part of the workforce CIF plan.<br />
Delivering an inspirational and motivational sports coach awards event in October<br />
<strong>2009</strong> linked to current local authority and the BBC Midlands sports awards<br />
Further enhancement of the <strong>SASSOT</strong> coach database including increasing<br />
the number of registered coaches to over 200 and consideration of an<br />
online management system<br />
Investigating further funding opportunities for the coach scholarship<br />
scheme whilst continuing to help fund coaching qualifications in the region<br />
Development of an online course database providing information on NGB,<br />
local authority, CSP and private sector training courses and workshops<br />
The introduction of an online booking and payment system for the <strong>SASSOT</strong><br />
workshop programme<br />

Delivery of a targeted education and training plan tailored to meet the<br />
needs of the regional workforce<br />
The roll out of a 2 year Recruit into Coaching programme along with Stokeon-Trent<br />
City Council and StreetGames which aims to engage 23 new volunteer<br />
coaches during <strong>2009</strong>/10 and a further 32 during 2010/11<br />
