EAST STAFFS UNITED<br />
East Staffs United is the name of the CSPAN<br />
for East <strong>Staffordshire</strong>. The main purpose of<br />
East Staffs United is to work together to develop<br />
a strategic vision for East <strong>Staffordshire</strong><br />
aimed at increasing opportunities and widening<br />
access to sport and physical activity to assist<br />
in raising current participation rates by at<br />
least 1% year on year.<br />
OBJECTIVES<br />
The main objective of East Staffs United is to<br />
develop and build a culture within East <strong>Staffordshire</strong><br />
which creates an environment that<br />
supports and promotes the whole community<br />
to be active and participate in sport and physical<br />
activity, improving our resident’s health<br />
and lifestyle, educational attainment and aspiration<br />
as well as social cohesion, safety and<br />
economic wellbeing. To provide and support<br />
the development of local people and relevant<br />
facilities to enable all residents equal access<br />
to achieve our mission.<br />
To develop action plans, with relevant partners<br />
from the public, private and voluntary<br />
sectors to achieve a coordinated approach in<br />
the development of sport and physical activity<br />
within East <strong>Staffordshire</strong>, which will be delivered<br />
through mainstreamed and externally<br />
funded interventions.<br />
ACHIEVEMENTS<br />
Since East Staffs United was formed in<br />
September 2007, sport and physical activity<br />
has played a major part in helping to deliver<br />
targets across a number of partners’ government<br />
agendas including, children’s Safeguarding<br />
Board and the LAA sub group such<br />
as children and young people, health and<br />
well-being.<br />
East <strong>Staffordshire</strong> Borough Council <strong>Sport</strong>s Development Team, is based at<br />
Shobnall Leisure Complex in Burton upon Trent, and organises and delivers<br />
a number of projects across the borough in both Uttoxeter and Burton<br />
and all the rural villages that lie between. <strong>Sport</strong> East Staffs are looking forward<br />
to <strong>2009</strong>, having had a successful year in <strong>2008</strong>. The team has continued<br />
to deliver a number of initiatives across the borough engaging over 14,000<br />
people, and aim to increase this number during the coming year, as the new<br />
East Staffs <strong>Sport</strong> and Physical Activity Strategy is implemented through the<br />
Community <strong>Sport</strong> Physical Activity Network [CSPAN], East Staffs United.<br />
Achievements<br />
Delivered 1 Level 1 <strong>Sport</strong>s Leaders Award Course, and 4 Level 2 Community<br />
<strong>Sport</strong>s Leaders Award Courses.<br />
Successful summer of activities during <strong>2008</strong>, with over 3000 children attending<br />
all activities, despite the wet weather<br />
<strong>Sport</strong> in the Hood project was nominated by <strong>SASSOT</strong> for the BBC Midland<br />
Power of <strong>Sport</strong> Awards<br />
Achieved 87% in the QUEST assessment in Sept <strong>2008</strong>, highest score in the<br />
West Midlands<br />
Received £40,000 from Children’s fund to run the Streets Ahead Project<br />
across Burton upon Trent<br />
Co-ordinated approach to marketing with all CSPAN partners<br />
Successful implementation of <strong>Sport</strong> Unlimited through the CSPAN subgroup<br />
Plans for the next 12 months<br />
Increase participation by 10%<br />
Hold the 6th Able Too Games at Meadowside Leisure Centre in September<br />
Roll out the Streets Ahead project across Burton upon Trent<br />
Implement Year 2 of the play strategy<br />
