EAST STAFFS UNITED
East Staffs United is the name of the CSPAN
for East Staffordshire. The main purpose of
East Staffs United is to work together to develop
a strategic vision for East Staffordshire
aimed at increasing opportunities and widening
access to sport and physical activity to assist
in raising current participation rates by at
least 1% year on year.
OBJECTIVES
The main objective of East Staffs United is to
develop and build a culture within East Staffordshire
which creates an environment that
supports and promotes the whole community
to be active and participate in sport and physical
activity, improving our resident’s health
and lifestyle, educational attainment and aspiration
as well as social cohesion, safety and
economic wellbeing. To provide and support
the development of local people and relevant
facilities to enable all residents equal access
to achieve our mission.
To develop action plans, with relevant partners
from the public, private and voluntary
sectors to achieve a coordinated approach in
the development of sport and physical activity
within East Staffordshire, which will be delivered
through mainstreamed and externally
funded interventions.
ACHIEVEMENTS
Since East Staffs United was formed in
September 2007, sport and physical activity
has played a major part in helping to deliver
targets across a number of partners’ government
agendas including, children’s Safeguarding
Board and the LAA sub group such
as children and young people, health and
well-being.
East Staffordshire Borough Council Sports Development Team, is based at
Shobnall Leisure Complex in Burton upon Trent, and organises and delivers
a number of projects across the borough in both Uttoxeter and Burton
and all the rural villages that lie between. Sport East Staffs are looking forward
to 2009, having had a successful year in 2008. The team has continued
to deliver a number of initiatives across the borough engaging over 14,000
people, and aim to increase this number during the coming year, as the new
East Staffs Sport and Physical Activity Strategy is implemented through the
Community Sport Physical Activity Network [CSPAN], East Staffs United.
Achievements
Delivered 1 Level 1 Sports Leaders Award Course, and 4 Level 2 Community
Sports Leaders Award Courses.
Successful summer of activities during 2008, with over 3000 children attending
all activities, despite the wet weather
Sport in the Hood project was nominated by SASSOT for the BBC Midland
Power of Sport Awards
Achieved 87% in the QUEST assessment in Sept 2008, highest score in the
West Midlands
Received £40,000 from Children’s fund to run the Streets Ahead Project
across Burton upon Trent
Co-ordinated approach to marketing with all CSPAN partners
Successful implementation of Sport Unlimited through the CSPAN subgroup
Plans for the next 12 months
Increase participation by 10%
Hold the 6th Able Too Games at Meadowside Leisure Centre in September
Roll out the Streets Ahead project across Burton upon Trent
Implement Year 2 of the play strategy
Implement Junior CHOICES to help put a halt to the rise in obese Children
