behind it w<strong>on</strong>ders that geologists refer<br />
to as outgrowths. These Small, Large<br />
and Dry outgrowths were described by<br />
Austro-Hungarian Felix Kanitz, a famous<br />
naturalist, geographer and Balkanologist, as<br />
well as a great friend <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Serbia</str<strong>on</strong>g>n people.<br />
One <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong>m even c<strong>on</strong>ceals within a small<br />
lake <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> unusual beauty. Suplja (Hollow)<br />
Rock is ano<strong>the</strong>r magnificent st<strong>on</strong>e bridge<br />
that <strong>the</strong> river formed with its powerful<br />
flow. However, <strong>the</strong> list <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> geomorphologic<br />

Near <strong>the</strong> Hollow Rock, from <strong>the</strong> darkness<br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> cave, flows a small river known as <strong>the</strong><br />
Beli Izvorac (White Source), which flows<br />
over cascading rocks, creating waterfalls <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

SILVER LAKE<br />
In <strong>the</strong> mysterious, undulating, fairytale area<br />
near Ram Fortress, where <strong>the</strong> Danube is<br />
more than two kilometres wide and its waters<br />
lap against river islands, local fishermen toast<br />
<strong>the</strong> benefits <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> river with wine and <strong>the</strong><br />
river, in turn, gives <strong>the</strong>m life – and it is here<br />
<strong>the</strong> Silver Lake found its place. In <strong>the</strong> late<br />
afterno<strong>on</strong> hours, when <strong>the</strong> sun has dipped<br />
behind <strong>the</strong> Carpathians, milli<strong>on</strong>s <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> sparkles <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
light make <strong>the</strong> surface <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> water shimmer<br />
and shine like silver. This extraordinarily<br />
beautiful lake has been a popular regi<strong>on</strong>al<br />
tourist centre, dubbed <strong>the</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Serbia</str<strong>on</strong>g>n Sea, since<br />
its creati<strong>on</strong> in <strong>the</strong> 1970s, when a narrow<br />
Danube channel al<strong>on</strong>g <strong>on</strong>e side <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> a river<br />
island was dammed to create <strong>the</strong> Silver Lake.<br />
Tailored beaches, rich fish life, comfortable<br />
accommodati<strong>on</strong> and good restaurants provide<br />
everything you need for a totally relaxing<br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>holiday</str<strong>on</strong>g>. The view from <strong>the</strong> nearby Ram<br />
Fortress reveals <strong>the</strong> unusual island <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Danube, which is <strong>the</strong>re for a moment, <strong>the</strong>n<br />
disappears. Ada Cibuklija is a river island <strong>on</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> Danube that sunk below <strong>the</strong> surface after<br />
<strong>the</strong> c<strong>on</strong>structi<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> hydroelectric dam<br />
at Djerdap. Ada Cibuklija has an interesting<br />
history <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> its own, as <strong>the</strong> place <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> enjoyment<br />
for <strong>the</strong> commander <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Ram Fortress, who kept<br />
his harem <strong>the</strong>re.<br />
