There are currently over 10,000 people on<br />
our <strong>hous<strong>in</strong>g</strong> register. Due to the serious<br />
lack <strong>of</strong> af<strong>for</strong>dable <strong>hous<strong>in</strong>g</strong> <strong>in</strong> Hill<strong>in</strong>gdon<br />
and the surround<strong>in</strong>g boroughs, we have to<br />
work with<strong>in</strong> set guidel<strong>in</strong>es to make sure<br />
that our limited <strong>hous<strong>in</strong>g</strong> is distributed<br />
fairly to everyone.<br />
What is the <strong>hous<strong>in</strong>g</strong> register?<br />
The <strong>hous<strong>in</strong>g</strong> register is a list <strong>of</strong> every person<br />
who applies <strong>for</strong> social <strong>hous<strong>in</strong>g</strong>. Social<br />
<strong>hous<strong>in</strong>g</strong> <strong>in</strong>cludes council <strong>hous<strong>in</strong>g</strong> and<br />
<strong>hous<strong>in</strong>g</strong> association properties. We keep the<br />
list on computer and also have a paper<br />
record file <strong>for</strong> each person. Each record<br />
file conta<strong>in</strong>s the orig<strong>in</strong>al application <strong>for</strong>m<br />
and all other correspondence and<br />
documents associated with the application.<br />
How we assess people <strong>for</strong> <strong>hous<strong>in</strong>g</strong><br />
The Locata scheme uses a ‘band<strong>in</strong>g’ system<br />
and a ‘priority date’ system. When new<br />
people jo<strong>in</strong> the <strong>hous<strong>in</strong>g</strong> register, we assess<br />
their <strong>hous<strong>in</strong>g</strong> need and give them a band<br />
– A, B, C or D. We also give them a priority<br />
date, which is the date we assess the<br />
application <strong>for</strong>m.<br />
We use the band<strong>in</strong>gs and priority dates to<br />
make sure we <strong>of</strong>fer <strong>hous<strong>in</strong>g</strong> fairly. It also<br />
makes sure we prioritise emergency and<br />
urgent cases above less serious situations,<br />
