The Surface Transportation Board, Section of Environmental Analysis is currently in the process of
reviewing the Canadian National Railway Company’s (CN) proposed acquisition of the Elgin, Joliet and
Eastern Railway Company (EJ&E). As a part of this review, we are meeting with area community leaders to
discuss project issues from the perspective of low-income or minority citizens. Our goal is to gather your
community’s concerns regarding safety, air quality, land use, socioeconomic, cultural, historic resources, or
any other concerns with regards to this acquisition. In addition, we would like to better understand how to
involve your community in future public participation activities.
Enclosed, please find 1) map showing the CN and EJ&E rail lines and 2) information about the
proposed acquisition. These materials have been made available to the public during project scoping meetings
