group. In the final stages the squads were all evenly matched
and on each occasion only one goal separated winners and
losers. Stockport Grammar lost to Cheadle Hulme, Withington
and Arnold.
The Yazoo Mini Hockey competition, Greater Manchester
Schools’ round took place on 12th February. The Stockport
Grammar U11 Hockey squad played in the first round of the
Mini Hockey tournament. Cheadle Hulme went through the
competition as winners after beating us 3-2 in a close game
with clear attacking opportunities on both sides. As runners -
up of the round, the squad qualified for the North West round
where they played Kirkham, King’s Chester and Queen’s
Chester. Unfortunately we were beaten by a close margin in
each game which halted our progress in this competition.
The Year 6 girls travelled to the Lake District for their end of
season Hockey tour on Friday 4th March. The first game was
against Westholme. It was expected to be a tough encounter
as the Stockport girls had already been beaten by their
opponents on the previous day. Unfortunately for the A team
a 5 - 1 loss was suffered. The B team had a slow start and
were 1 - 0 down at half time. Through some excellent
attacking work and good goalkeeping the match was turned
around to end in a win.
Having climbed the summit to reach Windermere Prep
school’s astroturf which is overlooking the lake, the teams
played with focus and energy. We completely overpowered
Windermere, played some fantastic linking play between
midfield and attack and finished the tour with a 3 - 0 win for
the A team and a 2 - 0 win for the B team.

TSB SCHOOLS CROSS COUNTRY LEAGUE – WOODBANK PARK
CROSS COUNTRY
Pupils from Years 3 to 6 have competed throughout the winter
in a series of six races organised by Stockport Harriers. It has
been a success for both individuals and groups and pleasing to
see so many children from Stockport Grammar Juniors giving
up their Saturday mornings to participate.
The Years 5 and 6 girls won their event for the second year
running and placed Morgan Hanson and Christine Bradley in
the top 10 in their age group. The Years 3 and 4 boys came
second in their event with Joe Davidson taking first place in
the individual standings.
Other performances of
note came from Alex
Curwen and Oscar Clarke -
Williams. In the Years 3
and 4 Girls’ races Daisy
Hanson was placed second
overall and the team came
in as third place finishers.
STOCKPORT SCHOOLS’ CROSS COUNTRY
Rouban Birch, Nathan Kingsley, Morgan Hanson, Joe
Davidson and Daisy Hanson were selected to run for the
Stockport Schools’ team in March.
AJIS CROSS COUNTRY
Well done to all of the children who ran at the AJIS
championships. It was a lovely afternoon and everyone tried
their hardest.
IAPS CROSS COUNTRY
The teams walked the course and realised the challenge of the
hilly ground across this golf course venue. The races were
hard fought and both boys’ and girls’ teams battled against
tough opposition. Both boys’ and girls’ teams ran to the best
of their ability but were unable to beat the strength of the
home team, St Mary’s Hall.
