Costs<br />
The construction costs of the system, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g ma<strong>in</strong> treatment unit, settl<strong>in</strong>g,<br />
dos<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> storage tank amounted to USD 430 (i.e. USD 61/p). System costs are<br />
<br />
to be negligible. The 500 litres of dr<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g water saved every day leads to an<br />
annual reduction <strong>in</strong> household expenditure of USD 40 (water price <strong>in</strong> Kathm<strong>and</strong>u:<br />
USD 0.23/m 3 ). Such a reduction <strong>in</strong> expenditure allows payback of the construction<br />
