Student Services<br />

The Gannett Gallery, located in Kunsela Hall, hosts<br />

several art exhibitions a year, including <strong>SUNY</strong>IT’s annual<br />

regional show.<br />

<strong>SUNY</strong>IT’s Cultural and Performing Arts Council funds<br />

fine arts, music and theater programs on campus throughout<br />

each academic year.<br />

Culturally diverse programs are also available through<br />

programming by the <strong>SUNY</strong>IT Campus Activities Board and<br />

special interest groups (International Students Association<br />

and Black and Latino American Student Union). Black History<br />

Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, and other cultural programs<br />

provide the opportunity to celebrate the unique contributions<br />

<strong>of</strong> our culturally diverse world.<br />

In addition, academic programs sponsor lecture<br />

series, symposia on current research, demonstrations,<br />

and dramatic readings which are open to students and the<br />

<strong>SUNY</strong>IT community.<br />

Students may also participate in performance ensembles<br />

in theatre and instrumental jazz.<br />

Career Services<br />

The Office <strong>of</strong> Career Services <strong>of</strong>fers students a wide range<br />

<strong>of</strong> career planning services to include resume writing and<br />

interviewing workshops, mock interview sessions, job search<br />

and internship assistance, and individualized career counseling.<br />

Students are strongly encouraged to register with Career<br />

Services as soon as they are admitted to the college. Registering<br />

upon admission allows students to take full advantage <strong>of</strong> these<br />

services and to gain access to the comprehensive web-based<br />

student/employer database, College Central Network. Students<br />

who create an account receive targeted e-mails regarding internship<br />

and employment opportunities available throughout<br />

the academic year. Information is available regarding graduate<br />

school admissions procedures and graduate school standardized<br />

testing through the Career Services Office.<br />

Athletics and Recreation<br />

The intercollegiate sports and recreation program <strong>of</strong>fers<br />

a variety <strong>of</strong> activities for the experienced student-athlete, the<br />

fitness enthusiast, the intramural participant and the avid<br />

sports fan. The Department <strong>of</strong> Athletics and Recreation encourages<br />

active participation from all students, faculty and<br />

staff at <strong>SUNY</strong>IT.<br />

Athletic Facilities<br />

The new Field House is equipped with a fitness center<br />

featuring a variety <strong>of</strong> treadmills, cross trainers, stair climbers<br />

and circuit training equipment, including free weights, which<br />

can benefit any fitness goals members <strong>of</strong> the <strong>SUNY</strong>IT community<br />

may have. The gym, running track, basketball court, and<br />

racquetball court comprise the Campus Center indoor facilities;<br />

outside, facilities include the Roemer fitness trail, soccer,<br />

baseball and s<strong>of</strong>tball fields, and a golf practice area. The Field<br />

House also features multiple court areas, a running track and<br />

an aerobics room and is adjacent to a lit turf field.<br />

Intercollegiate Teams<br />

Our intercollegiate sports program, a member <strong>of</strong> the NCAA<br />

III, the NEAC, and ECAC, includes competitive teams in men’s<br />

baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s<br />

cross country, men’s and women’s soccer, women’s s<strong>of</strong>tball,<br />

men’s and women’s volleyball and men’s and women’s lacrosse.<br />

Intramurals and Recreation<br />

Our recreation staff will help you to become involved in a<br />

myriad <strong>of</strong> single event or league intramural programs. Teams<br />

from the residence halls can take on teams <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>f-campus students<br />

in sports like volleyball, basketball and indoor soccer, or<br />

mix-and-match players with the help <strong>of</strong> the intramural director.<br />

We want you to become active and involved!<br />

For Credit Courses<br />

Athletics <strong>of</strong>fers 1-credit courses in fitness and recreation.<br />

Learn how to utilize the fitness center equipment and how to<br />

manage a personalized strength training or aerobic training<br />

program. Begin playing or hone your skills in recreational sports<br />

like golf and racquetball. Classes are <strong>of</strong>fered each semester.<br />

Club Sports<br />

Students interested in competing less formally have the<br />

opportunity to participate in a variety <strong>of</strong> club sports. The<br />

ski and snowboarding club, hockey club, scuba club, lacrosse<br />

club, bowling, indoor soccer, fencing, cricket, water polo and<br />

mountain biking/running club are examples <strong>of</strong> teams that the<br />

Student Association at <strong>SUNY</strong>IT has sponsored in the past.<br />

Student Activities and Student Government<br />

The <strong>SUNY</strong>IT Student Association (<strong>SUNY</strong>ITSA) is the<br />

elected student government organization for the student body.<br />

Through student activity fees, <strong>SUNY</strong>ITSA provides funding<br />

for a student publication, a student-run FM radio/TV cable<br />

station, and major campus programming and special events.<br />

Student organizations at <strong>SUNY</strong>IT provide students with leadership<br />

opportunities and with outlets for creative expression<br />

and campus involvement.<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essional, academic, and special interest clubs are open<br />

to all students. The Black and Latino American Student Union<br />

and the International Student Association provide peer support<br />

and multi-cultural activities for the campus. Academic<br />

honor societies, and academic clubs in every major, are also an<br />

important component <strong>of</strong> campus life at <strong>SUNY</strong>IT.<br />

Wellness Committee<br />

<strong>SUNY</strong>IT recognizes the importance <strong>of</strong> health education<br />

and prevention on the college campus as well as in the local<br />

community. This is why <strong>SUNY</strong>IT has established a Wellness<br />

Committee to promote these related issues. The purpose <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Wellness Committee is to provide the learner with valuable,<br />

current information that will prepare them to lead healthy lives<br />

long after leaving the learning environment. The committee<br />

is comprised <strong>of</strong> faculty, staff and students.<br />

The committee schedules and holds programs on numerous<br />

health and wellness related topics for the campus community.<br />

The committee has held programs focusing on issues such as:<br />
