The controller pushes up onto
the headlight and the seal isn’t
good enough. Bumper removal
is required.
This car came in with one
headlight out.

It was fitted with the Xenon
type globe, which cost a mint.
The hardest bit to figure
out with most vehicles that
incorporate the Xenon
headlight is whether it’s the
$200 globe or the even more
expensive igniter.
If the fuse is blown for the
relevant headlight it will most
likely be water damage in
the controller, which causes

another story. A trade customer
came to me with a globe in
his hot little hand and asked
if I had one. He had no clue
what he was holding. It was an
HID globe worth a couple of
hundred bucks. He asked if I
could test it. The answer was
‘no, bring me the car’.
Guess what – he gets a new
globe from Honda, and it
doesn’t work.
He brings the car back to
me and bleats that he is
now in trouble because he
underquoted the job for
insurance and would be out of
pocket if I charged him a lot to
fix it.
We grabbed the old globe
and put it into the good
headlight and it worked. Next
we checked the fuses and
replaced a blown fuse in the
offending headlight. It blew
again. To prove it was the
controller we removed the
other headlight assembly and
swapped the modules over
and sure enough the other side
blew the fuse. The customer,
armed with the bad news,
ordered a new module and
we fitted it as required. Deyan
