Castrol Superedge AL
High Performance Soluble Metalworking Fluid
Description
Castrol Superedge AL is a high performance soluble metalworking fluid based
on solvent refined paraffinic mineral oil especially designed for machining
aluminium and its alloys.
Castrol Superedge AL contains emulsifiers, corrosion inhibitors and special
lubricity additives, making it also suitable for use with ferrous metals. It contains
a very effective biocide package which protects the in use emulsion from both
bacteria and fungus.
Castrol Superedge AL forms a fine milky emulsion in potable water and does
not stain copper alloys.
Castrol Superedge AL is a low foaming product.
Application
Castrol Superedge AL is suitable for use on all metal types especially
aluminium and its alloys where exceptional tool life and surface finish is a
requirement.
Castrol Superedge AL must be premixed with water prior to use by adding the
concentrated product to water with a moderate degree of agitation.
The final working concentration should be between 5 and 15% depending on the
severity of the operation.
The concentration should be measured using a Castrol hand-held refractometer
using a conversion factor of 1.2.
Castrol Superedge AL should be delivered to the cutting area in a copious flood
application to provide maximum lubrication and cooling.
Benefits
• Formulated on solvent refined mineral oil – does not contain hazardous
aromatic constituents. Safe for operators.
• Contains special lubricity agents for aluminium – maximizes tool life and
provides good surface finish. Minimises scrap and rework.
• Contains biocide and fungicide – resists microbiological spoilage.
• Good wetting characteristics – keeps machines and tools clean.
Improves tool life.
• Low odour – operator acceptance. No complaints in service.
Spillage:
Disposal:
SMALL – 20 litres or less
Soak up on Castrol Diatomaceous Earth or similar inert oil
absorbent. Arrange for disposal through an approved facility.
LARGE – greater than 20 litres
Remove all sources of ignition. Increase ventilation. Evacuate all
unnecessary personnel. Wear full protective equipment and
clothing to minimise exposure. If possible contain the spill. Place
inert absorbent material such as vermiculite, sand or dirt onto
spillage. Use clean non-sparking tools to collect the material and
place into a suitable labelled container. Do not dilute material but
contain. If large quantities of this material enter the waterways
contact the Environmental Protection Authority, or your local
Waste Management Authority.
Oils must not be allowed to enter ground water, water
courses, sewerage or drainage systems. Refer to local waste
disposal authority for legal requirements.
