endeavor is the largest m~lti-~rou~
participation project of its kind
now in effect. In the spirit of
unity, it seeks only to serve and
support by solidifying a mutual
goal: A CENTRAL REUNION REGISTRY.
WHO DOES IT SERVE? Any individual
person seeking a reunion with nextof-kin
by birth, and knowledge of
their personal heritage; and/or any
private or public institution, organization,
association or group
representing such persons.
PEOPLE SEEKING REUNIONS are adult
persons who were separated in the
past from family members by birth
through acts of adoption, foster
care, war, orphaned, foundlings, as
wards of state, institutionalization
and divorce.
FUNDING. The I.S.R.R. is funded
solely by Emma May Vilardi. All
printing costs of Soundex Forms
utilized by participating organizations
must be ,borne by that group.
At present there are fi fty-four parti cipati ng
organizations and the number is ever growing.

more information should send .a SELF-ADDRESSED
REUNIONS OF TOMORROW

or organization wishing to participate
in the INTERNATIONAL
SOUNDEX REUNION REGISTRY.
MOW DOES THE I.S.R.R. FUNCTION?
The basic data supplied by the per-

son in search is codified by - use of
Soundex (conversion of the alphabet
to six numerals) for the entry
classification, 'file number and the.
;single code line into the Soundex
.T,edgers. This code line is capable
of seven points of match and ena-.
bles the registrar to check over
1,000 entries in about five minutes.
In its present. form, it is
computer ready.
All data contained on the Soundex
Form is then trailsmitted to a file
card coded by the searcher's present
identity as the file number.
This is reference for further comparison
if a match occurs in the
Soundex Ledgers. Three or more
points of match will result in the
individual file cards being pulled,

those who can help. There are presently
97 listed organizations and hundreds of
independent Search.Consultants.
Though it began to put searchers in
contact with groups or individuals who
could gui de their searches, it fast
grew to encompass other needs within the
movement. presently, we find that aboutto-re1
inquish parents are searching desperately
for agencies who i 11 readily
handle open adoption,. . some with ongoing
visitation rights. There is a great gap
here. Many of these parents decide to
keep their ch'i 1 dren or pl ace private Iy .
Lawyers are requesting names of people
who can tes ti fy . Organizations are
making contact to locate a person or
group who can give specific assistatice to
one of their members. Soci a1 workers,
judges, and others sympathetic to our
$cause are being listed in greater and
rgreater numbers.
