Form 7Y Fundraising for Charity
Report by Kirsty Hobbs and Kyle Richardson 7Y
This year form 7Y decided to raise money for Cancer Research. They chose Easter as their theme for a fabulous
bun sale and scrumptious Easter hampers raffle. As everyone loves chocolate the students in the form group
didn't take much persuasion to contribute. Every day for three weeks the students were out in force selling raffle
tickets to win an Easter hamper. The lucky winners were Alaynia Garforth of form 13JES and Rafal Chmiel of form 7G.
Form 7Y also held a chocolate theme bun sale which was a great success.
They also decided to hold a 'Name the Duck' competition when a beautiful Easter duckling arrived in their classroom
with no name. More than fifty names were chosen. Mrs Sanderson drew the winning ticket and they waved a sad
goodbye to the duck, now named Frederick, as it went to its new owner, Katharine Murie of 7S. These events raised a
grand total of approximately £200 for their charity.
A number of students from the form also raised money for the charity by participating in a sponsored silence. Other
fundraising activities have been organised by a small group from the form such as a ‘throw a wet sponge at the teacher’
event along with more bun and fancy pens sales, with proceeds of approximately £100 going to Martin House.
Mrs Carrara is extremely proud of her form and all their fund raising efforts.
Allotment Update
Summer’s here and as you can see from
our photographs below we have had
some beautiful sunny days. Due to the
mixture of very wet, very warm and also sunny
weather we have seen a lot of growth in the
allotment. I am really happy with the way the club
has progressed and how much of the
management is organised by the students
themselves. Two 6th form students have been
organising activities throughout the year and as
ever, our faithful Year 8 and 9 students attend
every week to clean, weed and hopefully, soon
harvest the produce.
Our Team
6th form: Owen L-Taylor &
Daniel Kennedy
Gardeners: Hannah Childs,
Helen Barraclough, George Pearson,
Miles Tidman, Ben O'Connor
We have been very lucky to receive new paving
stones to patio around the very wet pond area and we
are hoping to enter the Horsforth Town Council's
School Gardening Competition.
Great equipment from the Morrisons’ voucher
scheme has been received once again this year.
Report by Mrs K Carrara
Senior Music Concert
The Music Department's annual senior
concert was held in the drama studio on
March 31st. The evening was a great
success, featuring a variety of solo and small
group performances from students aged
between 15 and 18.
This is the third consecutive year that the
event has run, giving parents and members of
staff the opportunity to hear some of the
excellent music that students prepare for their
GCSE or A Level each year. The programme
featured a variety of genres from classical to
jazz and folk to Indian fusion. Mr Spinks
commented that this year's cohort had
produced some of the school's most talented
and dedicated musicians to date and that the
department was thriving as a result.
