HEALTH WEEK

Year 9 Healthfair – 16 June
To promote healthy living and 'keeping safe' theme during Horsforth
Health Week, the Lifeskills Department held a Health Fair in the
school hall for all Year 9 students. They had the opportunity to talk to
a variety of Health Care professionals and external agencies, including
school nurses, police, sexual health team, the teenage pregnancy unit, first
aid, road safety and drugs and alcohol specialists. Students were given
valuable information on keeping safe and healthy. They took part in
demonstrations, sampled healthy food, learnt the recovery position and
even tried to walk 'the line' with simulated 'beer goggles'.
Mrs Nowell said that it had been a very successful day, students not only
enjoyed the event but had discovered new ideas and developed new skills.
A special thanks to all involved including Mrs Kennedy's ASDAN groups
who helped deliver the Dr Abc and first aid.
Year 7 - 5 A Day Treasure Hunt - 17th June
To help celebrate the theme of healthy living, on Thursday 17th June, Year
7 took part in a ‘FIVE A DAY’ treasure hunt organised by the Life Skills
Department. Photographs of different types of fruit and vegetables were
hidden around all parts of the school building and students used their break
and lunch time periods to search for as many items as they possibly could.
Students were able to learn the correct portion sizes for their ‘five a day’
and keep fit at the same time!

REFURBISHMENT OF FOOD TECHNOLOGY ROOMS
Iam very pleased to be able to report that the two Food Technology rooms are going to be re-furbished
ready for the new school year in September. Although the physical size of the rooms will not change, the
rooms have been planned to include more work spaces and sinks.
This is good news for every one who uses the rooms. Watch this space in the next Newsletter for
photographs of the fantastic re-furbishments!
