Leadership Round Up
This year has been an excellent year for leadership opportunities and events.
Eighteen students have completed the Sports Leaders UK level 2 award
(CSLA). For this they undertook a four day course including a recognised First Aid
award and a disabilities workshop. They have also done at least 10 hours of
leading sport in the community. Sports have ranged from football, rugby,
cheerleading as well as running a multiskill club for primary children aged 4 - 6
years for the last two terms. Five of our CSLA leaders have also been part of the
Leeds Academy Leadership Programme and have attended training at Elland
Road to develop their skills further. They have then gone into primary schools in the
local area to run leadership workshops for Year 6 pupils.
Year 11 GCSE / BTec and Year 10 BTec groups have also been progressing
towards the above award by achieving the Junior Sports Leader Award. Sixty
students have been gaining leadership experience by taking sessions in local
primary schools as well as running multiskill festivals at Horsforth school.
Three Year 9 girls have also started on the road to becoming leaders by
volunteering to coach hockey at the primary school hockey club bases at school
on Friday nights. Well done to them.
Top Link
Top link is a national scheme for leadership run across the whole of
the UK. The Leeds Schools Partnership combine together to run this
project which took place during a full week in June. Our Top link
leaders this year are Year 10 students Tom Roberts, Ben Hopkinson,
Molly Pickering and Vicky Mather. They have attended a national
training day at Tong School along with all the other Top Link leaders in
West Yorkshire and are now planning a world cup competition for
Year 6 students in our local feeder schools.
