Mark Ford<br />
Mark Ford was CEO of Watercare Services, a position he took up in 1994. Prior to that he was chief executive of the New<br />
Zealand Forestry Corporation and the <strong>Auckland</strong> Regional Services Trust, and managing director of New Zealand Timberlands<br />
Ltd. <strong>The</strong>se positions followed a career in Europe and the USA in the petroleum industry. A former chair of the Energy<br />
Efficiency and Conservation Authority and deputy chair of the New Zealand Business Council for Sustainable Development,<br />
Mark was also a commissioner with the Gambling Commission during his term as an <strong>ARTA</strong> director. He is now chair of the<br />
<strong>Auckland</strong> Transition Agency, and will chair <strong>Auckland</strong> <strong>Transport</strong>’s directors.<br />
Brian Roche<br />
Brian Roche was a partner in PriceWaterhouse Coopers when he took up his role as first chair of <strong>ARTA</strong>. He was a former<br />
chief executive of Housing New Zealand Corporation, chief executive of the Crown company Monitoring and Advisory Unit in<br />
Treasury, and a chief negotiator for the Crown in the Ngai Tahu treaty settlement. He is now chief executive of New Zealand<br />
Post Group.<br />
Ted van Arkel<br />
Ted van Arkel had retired from his position as managing director of Progressive Enterprises when he joined <strong>ARTA</strong>, as part of<br />
a shift to becoming a full-time independent director. Other directorships included the <strong>Auckland</strong> Chamber of Commerce and<br />
<strong>Auckland</strong> Retailers Association. He was a council member, and now chair of Unitec Council.<br />
Richard Waddel<br />
Richard Waddel was a partner with Ernst & Young when he joined <strong>ARTA</strong>, and was the company’s CEO for 11 years. He was<br />
chairman of Pharmac, <strong>Auckland</strong> Festival Trust and a director of Aotea Centre Board of Management. Also a past member of<br />
Infrastructure <strong>Auckland</strong>, director of <strong>Auckland</strong> City’s <strong>The</strong> Edge® and chair of the <strong>Auckland</strong> District Health Board.<br />
Tony Parsons<br />
Tony Parsons was a civil engineer with more than 40 years’ experience in the construction industry, including major railway<br />
and roading projects. A former director of ARTNL, he was an advisor to Transit NZ on project viability and was project<br />
manager for Watercare’s Mangere treatment plant upgrade.<br />
Chief executives<br />
Alan Thompson was appointed CEO November <strong>2004</strong>. He had been CE of the Department of Urban Services for the<br />
Australian Capital Territory for the previous six years. When he left to take up the role of Secretary of <strong>Transport</strong> at the Ministry<br />
of <strong>Transport</strong> in 2006, he was replaced by Fergus Gammie, who has remained in the role through to the establishment of<br />
<strong>Auckland</strong> <strong>Transport</strong>.<br />
