Study area The Mirrabooka Local Area is a north-eastern precinct within the City of Stirling, encompassing most of the suburb of Mirrabooka. It lies between the street boundaries of Alexander Drive, Beach Road, Mirrabooka Avenue and Reid Highway. The Mirrabooka Local Area is approximately 10km north of the Perth City Centre and covers 400 hectares. The Mirrabooka Regional Centre (south of Reid Highway) makes up the rest of the suburb of Mirrabooka. It has been excluded from the study area as it forms part of the Dianella Local Area and has been the focus of the Mirrabooka Regional Centre Improvement Strategy. However, many issues and opportunities raised through the planning process are directly related to this Regional Centre, and some of the implementation of this plan needs to occur through improvements to the Regional Centre. The current role of the Mirrabooka Local Area is predominantly residential. It is characterised by mostly low-density residential development to its north and regional bushland reserve, brick works and the Atlas Waste Disposal and Recycling Site to the south. There is only one commercial centre in the Mirrabooka Local Area itself, “Mirrabooka Village”. Most of the commercial activity around the Mirrabooka Local Area is otherwise focused on Mirrabooka Regional Centre, which is the main commercial and civic centre servicing the Area. The nearby Malaga Industrial Area also provides various commercial facilities such as retail, showrooms and financial services and is a growing industrial and commercial hub within the City of Swan.
