AGENDA OF THE ORDINARY MEETING OF COUNCIL
13 NOVEMBER 2012
A2. The Mayor advised the question would be taken on notice and a written response
provided.
Additional Information
A1. The City is not aware of any inconsistencies in either the report or comments from
the Natural Environment Working Group (NEWG). Councillors have been provided
with the comments from the NEWG together with the officers’ responses and that has
formed part of their consideration in resolving to ENDORSE the Boardwalk Project for
public consultation. It is not possible to provide a response to alleged unspecified
“errors and misrepresentations”. A member of the NEWG can refer any queries in
regards to responses provided back through the NEWG for clarification. During the
consultation process, all members of the community will be able to provide further
comment.
A2. The City has not yet determined the method by which the public consultation will be
undertaken, however, any consultation will need to be sufficiently comprehensive to
satisfy Council at the subsequent report stage. It is likely that this will not be through
a facilitated Workshop, as these have limited capacity to cater for the wider
community and, moreover, tend to favour minority groups. The City’s website,
together with public libraries, provide an excellent medium for the provision of access
to a consultation report and plans which, in conjunction with advertising through local
press and the Stirling Scoop or Scene, is capable of reaching a wide audience for
participation in that process. Modern consultation, utilising digital media and free
community newspapers, is capable of reaching a wide and diverse cross section of
the community and is very cost effective.
5.1.7 PUBLIC QUESTION TIME - J DELFOS
The following questions were submitted by Mr J Delfos, 11 Duffield Grove, Carine WA
6020 at the Council meeting held 30 October 2012.
"Q1.
What is the progress as far as the old TAFE site is concerned? I believe it is going to
be a retirement village but I have not seen or heard any further development on it?"
A1. The Mayor advised the question would be taken on notice and a written response
provided.
"Q2.
I'm not against a Coastal Aquatic Facility west of Wanneroo Road, why is it proposed
to be put on the golf course rather than closer to the coast where sea water from the
ocean can be used?"
A2. The Director Community Development advised that a study was conducted on the
most appropriate area and that was identified as the Hamersley Golf Course. He
further advised that the closer you get to the ocean the radius/clientele reduces and it
was decided that the Hamersley Golf Course was the most appropriate area. He also
stated that the channelling of water from the sea was looked at by two (2)
consultants who recommended to Council that the preferred site would be Hamersley
Golf Course.
