AGENDA OF THE ORDINARY MEETING OF COUNCIL
13 NOVEMBER 2012
Issue
Community engagement
SOCIAL
Comment
This proposal has the potential to engage the community in
energy efficiency and sustainability issues. The City can
demonstrate best practice, leading by example in
encouraging residents to adopt energy efficiency measures.
Issue
Business innovation
ECONOMIC
Comment
This proposal has the opportunity to demonstrate to City
businesses that significant and long-term savings can be
achieved through initial investment in energy efficiency
measures.
Conclusion
In order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, a Corporate Energy Management Plan was
commissioned and is now presented to Council for endorsement. This plan recommends
energy efficiency and alternative/renewable energy actions for the City to pursue in order to
reduce energy consumption, annual energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions from
property assets.
It is predicted that if these actions are completed, the City could reduce property based
greenhouse gas emissions by 32% which in turn could provide an overall reduction on the
City’s greenhouse gas emissions by 14%. It is recommended that Council endorse the
Corporate Energy Management Plan as an informing document for the development of an
Energy Efficiency Action and Implementation Plan.
