Hi Campers and Families.
Our Rock Away with
Camp J theme this past week was
the music and culture of the 60s
British Invasion. Campers learned
about the bands, music, dances, art
and more. Just ask them about The
Who, The Beatles, and Davy Jones
and the Monkees! We ended the
week with a delicious kosher Fish
and Chips lunch. The kids ate it all
up and kept talking about how
yummy it was (see pics next page).
This coming week celebrate the
50s. It’s really going to be a busy
Camp Shalom
Megan Zucco, Assist. Director,
Shalom Unit Head (gr. K-2)
Camp Shalom had a
terrific week! The children
enjoyed creating psychedelic
artwork and dancing to
music from the 60’s. We
also made delicious scones
and practiced Hebrew
numbers during culture.
This coming week,
campers can look forward to
fantastic activities based on
our theme, “Nifty Fifties.”
On Monday, we will enjoy a
special performance and
programming from the
visiting Israeli Scouts. The
second grade Shalom
campers are looking forward
to their first trip to the
Diamondback’s game and
special overnight. On
Thursday, Camp Shalom
will be visiting the
Children’s Museum. More
information about our fun
field trip will be available
early next week!
“Rock Away with Camp J” News
and fun week. We start out Monday
with the Tzofim Israeli Scouts visit,
who will perform dance and songs in
the morning and work rotations in the
afternoon.
There will be a free Community
Concert at 6 p.m. (6/17) Please feel
free to join us in the Camp
Auditorium with friends and family.
On Wednesday, 2nd grade and up
campers go to Phoenix for the
Diamondbacks game and return to the
J for a special optional overnight
(includes dinner and breakfast).
Information will go out Monday
evening with details.
On Thursday, Camp Shalom visits
the Children’s Museum and on
Friday, Camps’ Giborim and Tiyul
get a special added fieldtrip with great
seats at Barnum and Baileys circus
(lunch not provided).
Finally, we are including a parent

how we are doing. We truly want this

Sports Camp had an
unbelievable week practicing our
football skills and playing flag
football. Our field trip to
Funtasticks was a blast! Be
prepared for a fun and busy week
4! We will be heading to Phoenix
Wednesday for the Arizona
Diamondbacks baseball game
and overnight here at the Tucson
JCC! Also, don’t forget the
Israeli Scouts performance on
Monday morning as well!

Athletic Conditioning Coordinator (gr. 6-9)
What a great week! Campers learned about good
and bad sugars with the nutritionist (Lisa), who we
see weekly. Campers continued to improve their
conditioning skills with activities including jump
rope, cardio, and urban cycling. The highlight was
our Ropes Course at U of A. We look forward to
getting an “ACC” only behind-the-scenes access at
Chase Field before the Diamondbacks game!

Camp Giborim
Aimee Katz
Giborim Unit Head (gr. 3-5)
Camp Giborim had a splendid
week. We enjoyed the inflatable
slip and slide along with a water
obstacle course at THA. We also
enjoyed a trip to the fascinating
Colossal Caves.
This coming week will be
one to remember. On Monday we
will enjoy a performance and
rotations by the Israeli Scouts. On
Wednesday we will head up to
Phoenix for Camp Day at the
Diamondbacks game and then
back to the JCC for the annual
overnight. On Friday we will
conclude our spectacular week
with a special added trip to the
Barnum and Bailey Circus. We
will not be providing lunch on this
Friday, so please remember to
send your with money or a sack
lunch (may bring to the arena)

Camp Tiyul
Matt Smith
Tiyul Unit Head (gr. 6-9)
Camp Tiyul had another
amazing week of adventure. We
jumped, raced and climbed at Pump
It Up, Rocks and Ropes, and Skate
Country, pretended to be DJs at
Clear Channel Radio (93.7), had a
BBQ at the park, and explored our
scientific sides at the Phoenix
Science Center.
This coming week we look
forward to a visit from the Israeli
Scouts on Monday and our trip to
Chase Field for a Diamondbacks
baseball game. After the game we
have our overnight at the JCC where
we will be playing games, watching
movies, and telling fun stories!
Lastly, we have a special added
Friday trip to Barnum and Bailey’s
Circus! We will not be providing
lunch on Friday. Please bring money
or a sack lunch for the Circus.
Camp Pictures, Week 3
Camp Bonim/LIT

Alyssa Oberman Bonim L.I.T. Coordinator (Leaders In Training) (gr. 9-11)
We just finished another wonderful week at camp. Campers spent the
week working with groups and did an absolutely wonderful job. We took a
break from the groups on Thursday to spend some time together as a group
and made our own LIT tie-dyed shirts. We also went over our first set of
counselor evaluations and, no surprise to us, everyone did a nice job. We
are so happy to have such a wonderful group of LITs.
Next week we have the Tzofim coming to spend the day with us on
Monday and on Wednesday we will be joining the groups going to the
Diamondbacks game. We cannot wait to see what next week brings us.

Hello! As the summer heat
continues to rise it is important to remind
your campers of the importance of a
hearty breakfast and the need to drink
plenty of water throughout the day. If
your camper complains of an earache or
sore eyes after swimming, please feel
free to pack goggles and provide ear
drops. Have a great summer.
