Screening Process<br />

The screening process is divided into primary and secondary<br />

screenings<br />

Requesting an Application Guidebook<br />

There are three ways to obtain a guidebook.<br />

1. Primary screening<br />

The primary screening is based on a comprehensive<br />

review of the following items.<br />

(1) Grades and other records from educational institutions<br />

from which the applicant graduated<br />

(2) EJU scores (June or November 2012 EJU)<br />

(3) TOEFL or IELTS scores<br />

(4) Scores from any standardized test taken in the<br />

applicant’s home country<br />

2. Secondary screening<br />

Applicants who passed the primary screening will<br />

undergo a further screening process consisting of<br />

a written short essay and an interview.<br />

(1) Eligibility: International students who wish to study<br />

at the undergraduate level at universities or other<br />

such higher educational institutions in Japan<br />

(2) Date of exam: (1st Session) June 17, 2012<br />

(2nd Session) November 11, 2012<br />

(3) Venues:<br />

Within Japan: more than 10 places across the<br />

country<br />

Outside Japan: Hong Kong, India (New Delhi),<br />

Indonesia (Jakarta and Surabaya), Malaysia (Kuala<br />

Lumpur), Mongolia (Ulaanbaatar), Myanmar (Yangon),<br />

Philippines (Manila), Republic of Korea (Seoul and<br />

Busan), Russia (Vladivostok), Singapore, Sri Lanka<br />

(Colombo), Taiwan (Taipei), Thailand (Bangkok) and<br />

Vietnam (Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City)<br />

(4) Subjects: Japanese as a Foreign Language, Science,<br />

Japan and the World, Mathematics<br />

(5) Examination languages option: Japanese or English<br />

(except for the Japanese as a Foreign Language<br />

test, which is given in Japanese only)<br />

(6) Answering format: multiple-choice format (except<br />

for the writing section of the Japanese as a Foreign Language)<br />
