PROCEDURE:
(1) Pilot ordering: Vessels should send request for Deep Sea Pilotage at least 48h
in advance, to the Dunkerque or Cherbourg Offi ce stating:
(a) Vessel’s name, type and characteristics
(b) Draught
(c) Destination
(d) Pilot boarding position
(e) ETA at the Pilot boarding position
(2) Notice of ETA: Vessels should confi rm ETA as follows:
(a) 24h before arrival to Deep Sea Pilots Cherbourg
(b) 4h before arrival to Jobourg Traffi c on VHF Ch 13
(c) 2h before arrival to Vigie du Homet on VHF Ch 12
(3) Vessels should maintain a continuous watch on VHF Ch 16 and Ch 12 after the last
contact.
(4) All amendments to ETA of more than 2h should be reported at least 6h before
arrival.
(5) Pilot boards in the following positions:
(a) 49°43′·60N 1°42′·50W (in the vicinity of Lt buoy CH1)
(b) 49°47′·50N 1°38′·80W (vessels carrying dangerous cargo)
NOTE:

PROCEDURE:
(1) Pilotage is compulsory for:
(a) Vessels and tows over 50m LOA
(b) Vessels carrying dangerous cargo
(2) Pilot ordering: Vessels should send requests for Pilot through the agent or
directly to the Pilots 12h in advance (or on departure from the previous port) stating:
(a) Vessel’s name, type and characteristics
(b) ETA
(c) Draught
(d) Number of tugs required
(3) Vessels should contact Vigie du Homet (Homet Coastguard) on VHF Ch 16 or 12,
2h before arrival and confi rm tug assistance if required; vessels must also maintain a
continuous watch on these VHF Channels and confi rm ETA 1h before arrival.
(4) Departing vessels should request Pilot 2h in advance (before 1800 LT for departure
between 2000 LT and 0800 LT the following day).
(5) Pilot boards in the following positions:
(a) 49°43′·60N 1°42′·50W (in the vicinity of Lt buoy CH1)
(b) 49°46′·00N 1°45′·00W (Coal terminal)
(c) In bad weather, vessels will be guided by VHF until Pilot boards in the shelter of
the Grande Digue
NOTE:
On request, the Pilot can board in advance from a neighbouring French or foreign
port.

AREA:
The compulsory pilotage area extends 7 n miles out to sea from Fort de l’Ouest
(49°40′·50N 1°38′·80W).
