2014 Nevada Nurses Association January 2014 I am very pleased to provide a report on the educational opportunities Nevada Nurses Association (NNA) has offered this past year and the projects we are working on for the upcoming year. Nurses communicated to us their desire for more CEU classes. We listened and have offered more opportunities for our members, nurses throughout Nevada and even nurses outside of Nevada. The Bioterrorism course continues to be highly utilized by Nevada nurses as well as nurses across the country. From July 2013 to July 2014, 221 nurses took the course; the majority of those nurses were not NNA members. This course continues to be a large revenue source for NNA. Other CEU courses provided by NNA during the same time frame are: Nicki Aaker • AHRQ – Effective Health Care Program Introduction Webinar • Health Coach Training • Two different presentations on Human Tracking • Disruptive Behavior Train-the-Trainer • Lateral Violence Train-the-Trainer • Nevada Nurses Association Annual Meeting – Safe Staffing Panel In addition, the Healthy Nurse Initiative provided additional educational opportunities. There is a lot to look forward to in the next year. The big and exciting news is that Nevada Organization of Nurse Leaders (NONL) and NNA have partnered to bring Nevada’s nurses the “Leading Something Extraordinary” Nursing Conference, November 16 – 18, 2014 at the Tropicana in Las Vegas. There are a lot of great sessions planned. The session titled Nevada’s Safe Staffing Law: What Does It Mean to Nevada Nurses and Hospitals? will be videotaped and put on the NNA website (www.nvnurses.org) as a CEU educational opportunity for all nurses and CNAs. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the conference committee for working so hard to make this opportunity available to nurses! Another exciting event is the 2015 Nurses Day at the Legislature Conference on February 25, 2015 at the Legislative Building in Carson City. Mark your calendars and plan to attend. This is a great way to see learn what happens during a legislative session, and what happens between sessions. There will be exciting presentations, plus nurses may have the opportunity to sit with his/her assembly representative or senator. NNA is going electronic. We are working on an electronic education portal which will be accessible on the NNA website. Nurses will be able to take courses online and the CEU certificate will be immediately available upon passing the course. This will be a huge improvement for the Bioterrorism Course. 17
