Center, for example, has the capability of making on-line searches of<br />

several hundred data bases that include periodicals, books, reports, and<br />

other publications. Some data bases provide abstracts along with full<br />

citations. The user works with a Library staff person by defining the kind<br />

of information desired, as well as specifying key words to be used in the<br />

search. Bibliographies can be requested by subject area, author, report<br />

number, or other category. The library can also provide copies of<br />

articles, and loan books in their collection and through inter-library loan.<br />

Any BLM employee can contact the Library at the BLM Service Center in<br />

Denver for assistance. The phone number is 303/236-6646.<br />

The Alaska Resources Library provides a full range of library services to<br />

all Federal employees, particularly in the natural resources field. The<br />

Library is located in the Federal Building in Anchorage, where it is<br />

administered by the BLM. The phone number is 907/271-5025; FAX is<br />

907/271-5965.<br />

The Department of the Interior Natural Resources Library provides a full<br />

range of library services to USDI employees in response to telephone<br />

and written requests. They are located in the Main Interior Building,<br />

Washington, D.C.; their phone number is 202/208-5815.<br />

<strong>National</strong> Park Service employees can contact the NPS Service Center at<br />

Harper's Ferry, Virginia or Denver for library assistance. The phone<br />

number at Harper's Ferry is 304/535-6371; Denver is 303/969-2100.<br />

U. S. Forest Service employees can obtain a full range of library<br />

services through FS INFO, available to them on the Data General<br />

System through the Information Center process. Both Forest Service<br />

Research and <strong>National</strong> Forest System Employees can seek assistance<br />

from the FS INFO center located in at the Forest and Range Experiment<br />

Station in their geographic region.<br />

G. Summary<br />

Computer technology and applications are developing so quickly that<br />

any list of software is incomplete as soon as it is published. Specialized<br />

computer programs, called expert systems, may be available in the next<br />

few years. Expert systems are being developed or planned that can<br />

assist in the development of fire prescriptions to meet specific resource<br />

objectives, and to achieve specific fire effects. Agency fire management
