Rural traditions displayed on the 17th-18th century farm, rare local breeds of sheep,<br />

rabbits, donkeys…<br />

The National Saint-Lô stud farm is composed of beautiful 19th century buildings . Cradle<br />

of the French Selle breed, it hosts 40 stallions of 7 different breeds where the French<br />

Selle prevails. Its number of stallions makes it the first national stud farm, guaranteeing<br />

the know-how of the pure tradition.<br />

This museum was founded in 1835 and has an exceptional collection of tapestries dating<br />

from 16th to 20th century. Collection of 19th century paintings by Corot, Boudin, Millet.<br />

Town history hall with interactive space. Jean Follain, Octave Feuillet literature spaces,<br />

4 exhibitions every year.<br />

The farm of Boisjugan is a fine example of 17th century architecture combining tradition<br />

and modernity. The museum presents over 1000 objects in its 800m² exhibition area :<br />

agricultural progress, horse breeding and cattle farming.<br />

Based in an old brickworks, this interactive museum displays the old industry of brick<br />

making in the region and its impact on local architecture. Exhibition of products from<br />

different times and production sites.<br />

The 1930 illuminated Miniature Village was built on the scale of 1/10th according to<br />

official documents from the period and displays old forgotten trades, the village, a farm,<br />

a country fair, a medieval castle, work in the fields and a coal mine.<br />

Saint-Michel-de-Montjoie is the last quarry producing "Vire Blue" granite. Discover its<br />

history, especially the industry's apogee at the beginning of the 20th century. Enjoy a<br />

pleasant walk through the museum-park in the heart of a listed "village of heritage".<br />

Family home of the writer Barbey d'Aurevilly (1808-1889), this literary museum has a rich<br />

collection of manuscripts, letters and photos.<br />

The museum shows the archaeological collections from the battle of the Hougue in 1692,<br />

objects from the Bronze Age, information of the seaside culture and of the Beaux-Arts<br />

(Painters from the 17th-21st century).<br />

The artist, Jean-Paul Gosselin, who has been there for over 45 years, has turned his<br />

workshop in to a museum: paintings, sketches...<br />

Charming manor house with two exceptional collections of glass and holy crib scenes<br />

from the 17th and 18th centuries. Chinaware dating from the 19th century.<br />

Discover astronomy and space conquest. Night observation with specific equipment.<br />

Workshop for children. Landscaped garden with panoramic view.<br />

Set in a huge farm, permanent exhibition on daily life in the Bay, exploring its flora and<br />

fauna. Interactive displays, discover it with models, videos.<br />

A spectacular collection of copper pots reveals the secrets of calvados distillation. On<br />

the first floor, craftsmen's workshops and stonemasons', lock makers', tanners' tools.<br />

Built around 1480 to dye woollen sheets, leather and skins, this house was then used as<br />

a barrack from 1733 until the end of the 19th century. Discover five centuries of cider<br />

history through crushers and presses, pottery, transports tools and Norman life,<br />

costumes and furniture of 18th and 19th century.<br />

Arts centre on Norman and Anglo-Norman medieval history with a 30m-long Villedieules-Poêles<br />

tapestry on the difficult succession between William the Conqueror's three<br />

sons leading to the coronation of the youngest son Henry I Beauclerc, who initiated the<br />

creation of Villedieu-les-Poêles. Film on his 35 year reign.<br />

An old rebuilt workshop dating back to the 17th century houses two museums, the first<br />

one displays production and use of copper through the ages, and the second one lace<br />

including lace-making demonstrations.<br />

Exhibition of 145 pieces of traditional Norman furniture from the 15th to the 19th century<br />

all pieces coming from the five Norman departments and making the collection an<br />

important representation of popular art in this rural community.<br />

Miniature farm showing rural life in the past, Norman farm, furniture, two mills, animated<br />

scene. The exhibition is housed in an old rural building of over a hundred years<br />

surrounded by a picturesque garden. Guided visit given in Norman patois by the creator<br />

of the farm.<br />

Permanent exhibition at the Town Hall : 18th and 19th century pottery (both functional<br />

and decorative).<br />

Birthplace of Thérèse Martin, where she spent her early years before moving to Lisieux.<br />

Collection of the 17th-20th century French and European lace. French, Italian and Dutch<br />

paintings.<br />
