I. I. PROBST emcced the annual Fallicr-Son<br />

Dinner for the new students starting this fall at<br />

<strong>Notre</strong> <strong>Dame</strong>.<br />

It was noted that CHARLIE MAHER '33, past<br />

president, attended with his son, Charlie Maher,<br />

who will be a freshman this year.<br />

The October meeting set up the plans for the<br />

.-\nnu3l Communion Breakfast, which will be held<br />

Sunday, Dec. 13, and for which DONALD MUR­<br />

RAY '57 ad%'iscd the program b all set. JACK<br />

CANANE, BOB HALPIN and RAY POPP have<br />

started the planning for the affair the Club will<br />

have in conjunction with the Miami-XD game<br />

nf the billiard championship for 19&4.<br />

The Club sponsored a bus trip to the ND-<br />

Wisconsin same in Madison, Wis., Sept. 2G, 1964.<br />

LEON D.\RGIS handled arrangements for the trip,<br />

whidi included game ticket, bus and an evening<br />

smorgasbord at the Wagon Wheel in Rocton, III.<br />

m The delightful Cafe Rouge <strong>of</strong> the Hotel PBster<br />

W was the setting for this year's Universal <strong>Notre</strong> <strong>Dame</strong><br />

Night. Dean Norman R. Gay <strong>of</strong> the College <strong>of</strong> Enginceiing<br />

brought the guests up to date on the<br />

ph>.5tcal cltanges <strong>of</strong> the campus, as well as discussing<br />

<strong>Notre</strong> <strong>Dame</strong>'s concept <strong>of</strong> education both locally and<br />

throughout the world.<br />

\VILLIAM G. DOUCETTE '43 was a very surprised<br />

individual when he heard himself named as<br />

Milw^aukee's 1964 Man <strong>of</strong> the Year. No one is more<br />

deserving, Billl Congratulations arc also in order for<br />

RON BUKOWSKI '60, who won the race against<br />

the clock in putting together a 5nc program.<br />

An amazing number <strong>of</strong> Milwaukee alunnii own<br />

"waders," a fact proven by the great number who<br />

braved a torrential day-long downpour 10 propel<br />

that "thing" all over the countryside. "MOOSE"<br />

KRAUSE didn't have "waders" but showed marvelous<br />

proliciency in the use <strong>of</strong> a canoe paddle and<br />

beat the rest <strong>of</strong> the sailors in. Inside the Tuckaway<br />

Country Club Clubhouse it was cards, drink, wonderful<br />

food, drink, "Ntoosc" Krausc. drink.<br />

NEW OFFICERS<br />

The new <strong>of</strong>Ucer^ for 'frl-'Gj are: President. TOM<br />

MULCAHY '57; \'ice-l'resident, JOHN SCHLOE-<br />

GEL '54; Treasurer, RICHARD EHR '34: and<br />

Secretary, DAVE ROEMER '39. The "chiefs" have<br />

set three goals for themselves: (1) build up the<br />

treasury; (2) produce a supplement to the directory;<br />

and (3) please their "patrons." In addition the V-P<br />

has been given the primarv- responsibility <strong>of</strong> tickets<br />

and the telephoning committee. The <strong>of</strong>ficers felt that<br />

the past year's schedule was a bit crowded and consequently<br />

eliminated the January. Sports Night.<br />

Lastly, from the crowd <strong>of</strong> volunteers the following<br />

were selected to chairman this vear's events; JOHN<br />

SCHLOEGEL (Fall Smoker).' D.Wt. MURPm"<br />

(Christmas Dance), KEN TRUDE.AU (Communion<br />

Breakfast), PHIL O'VOGEL (Saint Patrick's Day<br />

Party), NED BALDUS (Universal <strong>Notre</strong> <strong>Dame</strong><br />

Night), and TOM MULCAHY (Golf Outing —<br />

Nashville<br />

We received a letter from JIM ARMSTRONG<br />

informing us that our application had been approved.<br />

.Also had a letter from BRO. C30NAN,<br />

and we have ordered a pennant. So we are rolling<br />

and looking forward to a big year for the <strong>Notre</strong><br />

<strong>Dame</strong> Club <strong>of</strong> Nashville.<br />

Our next get-together was planned for .Vovember<br />

10 to form committees and decide on our program<br />

for 1965. Then on December 26 we will have a<br />

Christmas Dance for alumni and students at the<br />

Officers Club here at Sewart .AFB. Cocktails will<br />

start at 7 p.m. The cocktail hour wilt be followed<br />

by dinner and dancing in the Main Ballroom. Wc<br />

anticipate a good turnout for what might be called<br />

our first "<strong>of</strong>ficial" function.<br />

New York<br />

On June 4 GORDON FORESTER chaired the<br />

,.\nnual Golf Outing at The Brookville C.C. on<br />

Long Island. The weather, food, refreshments<br />

and 60 members and guests combined to make this<br />

a delightful day.<br />

BERNIE CONNOR arranged for the .Annual<br />

Family Baseball Night at beautiful Shea Stadium.<br />

Well over 100 alumni, children, wives and friends<br />

were on hand to watch the Mets and Phillies play<br />

a pair. Despite a double loss to the Phillies, everybody<br />

agreed this was a gala night — excellent seats,<br />

two fine ball games, wonderful hospitality and<br />

atmosphere — and a chance to meet with old<br />

friends.<br />

JOHN McN.AMARA initiated the fall program<br />

as chairman and host <strong>of</strong> the annual Father-Son<br />

Freshman Smoker at the Waldorf on Sept. II.<br />

Over 250 fathers and sons were on hand to hear<br />

John's wit and wisdom and to listen to ND's JIM<br />

GIBBONS give the incoming freshmen the **word"<br />

on life at ND. CASS VANCE, BILL F.ALLON<br />

and ED FITZPATRICK helped writh the arrangements,<br />

and Pres. GUS HARDART ivelcomed the<br />

group. The combination <strong>of</strong> John's able MC'ing<br />

and Jim's eloquent picture <strong>of</strong> ND gave this important<br />

Club affair a new luster.<br />

HARVXY FOSTER took charge and produced a<br />

great Kick Off Night at the Waldorf on Sept. 23.<br />

Feature <strong>of</strong> the night w.as a "hot line to AR.A<br />

P.ARSEGHIAN," a direct telephone hookup to the<br />

campus, with Murray Robinson, Well-known sports<br />

writer, handling the NY' end. .Am came through<br />

loud and dear, handled the questions with himior,<br />

sincerity and honesty . . . and created the impression<br />

that things are looking better for the Fighting<br />

Irish. BOB WILKIE shared the dais with Murray,<br />

and AL PERRINE brought the Club up to<br />

date oil the status <strong>of</strong> Challenge II. TOM BRAD­<br />

LEY, -JOHN BURNS, CASS VANCE, ED FFTZ-<br />

PATRICK, BILL CUDDY and Pres. GUS HAR­<br />

DART, by now a polished keynoter, aided Hari'ey<br />

w'ith the program.<br />
