Capt. GERRY WETZEL has completed a sixmonth<br />
overseas ordnance <strong>of</strong>ficer course at the Army<br />
Ordnance Center and School at Aberdeen Pro\'ing<br />
Ground, Md. In October, 1963, he returned from<br />
an assignment on Okinawa.<br />
Capt. P.AUL LYNCH is a pilot for the S.\C's<br />
ML7th Bomb Wing at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio,<br />
W.hich has won the coveted USAF Outstanding<br />
Unit Award. Paul and members <strong>of</strong> his wing will<br />
wear the medal as a permanent decoration for<br />
helping the wing achieve a sustained superior<br />
performance rating in keeping SAC intercontinental<br />
missiles and jet bombers on constant alert. The<br />
17th has receix'cd 10 top honors in recent months.<br />
AL STEPAN III has been selected as an international<br />
fellow at Columbia U., where he is enrolled<br />
in the dept. <strong>of</strong> public law and government.<br />
This program enables gifted American graduate<br />
students to combine pr<strong>of</strong>essional education with<br />
ad\'anced training in international affairs.<br />
NEIL BANCROFT has been appointed asst.<br />
^dvisor>- <strong>of</strong>ficer <strong>of</strong> Teachers Ins. & Annuity Assn.<br />
^f .\nierica and College Retirement Equities Fund.<br />
Capt. CHARLES KILB has graduated from the<br />
US.\F training course for F-lOO Super Sabre pilots<br />
at Luke AFB, Ariz., and is now- "combat ready"<br />
in the supersonic jet fighter. He has been assigned<br />
to a Tactical Air Command unit at England<br />
AFB, La.<br />
After a year's study at ^fa^queltc U. JOHN<br />
FRfVNKS attended Western Rescr\c U.. where he<br />
received a master's and a doctorate in organic<br />
chemistry in '6i. Dr. Franks has accepted a<br />
position as a senior organic chemist with Eli Lilly<br />
and Co., Indianapolis-based pharmaceutical firm.<br />
D.WE WOLL has joined the US Dept. <strong>of</strong> Labor<br />
in the Bureau <strong>of</strong> Emplo>Tncnt Security as a management<br />
intern.<br />
BILL BUSCEMI received his master <strong>of</strong> arts from<br />
Ohio State U. in August.<br />
A Wc just received word that MIKE GLE^VSON<br />
"s now living on Star Route 2 in New Braunfcls,<br />
Texas.<br />
JOHN VOLSKE was promoted to Sgt/1 while<br />
assigned to hdqrs. co. <strong>of</strong> the 593d Engineer Group<br />
at Granite Cit\' (111,) Army Depot as personnel<br />
sgt. <strong>of</strong> the company.<br />
DAVE ZONIES and wife Jackie have three children<br />
(Debbie, Dave and Kim) with another one<br />
due in September. Dave is in residence for internal<br />
medicine at the U. <strong>of</strong> Pcnn. in Philadelphia, where<br />
he also served his internship. Be sure and put Dr.<br />
in front <strong>of</strong> his name when you drop him a note.<br />
Capt. PAUL PIKELL received the US.\F Commendation<br />
Medal at Vandenberg AFB, Calif,, for<br />
meritorious ser\-icc as a ground electronics <strong>of</strong>ficer<br />
at Larson AFB, Wash.<br />
9 Capt. DICK BIES, a legal <strong>of</strong>ficer, is serving<br />
with a unit <strong>of</strong> the US.\F in Europe at Senibach<br />
.\B, Germany,<br />
JERRY DODGE, juvenile lead <strong>of</strong> the Broadway<br />
musical hit "Hello, Dolly," has had TV bits in<br />
such New York-based series as The Defenders, The<br />
Doctors and the Nurses and Car 54.<br />
LEE TODD has joined the faculty <strong>of</strong> the U. <strong>of</strong><br />
Illinois as an asst. pr<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> inorganic chemistry.<br />
JOHN HEDRICK MA'58 has joined the staff<br />
<strong>of</strong> Kent State U. as an instructor in English in the<br />
Canton Center.<br />
JOE O'GRADY MA'58 was promoted to the<br />
rank <strong>of</strong> captain in the Army Rescr\e. Capt.<br />
O'Grady, intelligence <strong>of</strong>ficer for the I57th Support<br />
Battalion, is an asst. pr<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> history at LaSalle<br />

I have not received much news since reunion<br />
weekend so this column will contain little information.<br />
Thanks arc in order to JOHN LEAHY<br />
for his assistance in taking care <strong>of</strong> some <strong>of</strong> the<br />
nccessar>* detail work for the weekend plans. All<br />
in all I think we had a good turnout for our first<br />
get-together — summer camp seemed to be our<br />
biggest impairment; however, I am sure that our<br />
tenth will produce some faces that wc didn't get<br />
to see.<br />
TOM L. TRINLEY is a chemical engineer with<br />
the DuPont Co. at their Marshall Lab in Philadelphia.<br />
He, his ^vife and their four children now<br />
reside in WilHngboro, N.J.<br />
JULIUS JODLBAUER recently graduated from<br />
the U, <strong>of</strong> Maryland and by now I presume has<br />
passed his bar exam; on Sept, 5 he was married to<br />
Miss ^(arcia Isaah from Elkton, Md.<br />
SHANNON "SAM" SMITH recently started to<br />
work for Hartford Life Ins. Co. in Cincinnati as<br />
a sales representative. He will undergo his training<br />
program in Chicago.<br />
GEORGE ROSS recently entered St. Gregory<br />
Scminar\' in Cincinnati and is studying for the diocese<br />
<strong>of</strong> Lansing, Mich.; at present he is taking a<br />
Latin re%'iev** course.<br />
CARL W. ENGSTROM was graduated from<br />
Albany Law School in June, 1962, passed the bar<br />
exam and was admitted to practice before the<br />
New York and Federal Bar, November, 1962; he<br />
is now associated with the law firm <strong>of</strong> Smith,<br />
Pattison, Sampson and Jones, Troy, N.Y. Carl<br />
and his wife Kathr>-n have two children, Carl and<br />
Kathr>-n.<br />
ROBERT ^VETOSKA worked this summer for<br />
Tobin-Stahr Co, in Ma>%vood, 111. — he is now <strong>of</strong><br />
course with the Chicago Bears. Congratulations<br />
on your recent engagement. Bob, but I have forgotten<br />
the girl's name.<br />
MICKEY SUNSTROM will be relieved <strong>of</strong> his<br />
tour <strong>of</strong> duty as <strong>of</strong> November and \viU return to<br />
Chicago for some further schooling.<br />

New examinations announced by<br />
CIVIL SERVICE COMi\nSSION<br />
Applications are now being accepted<br />
for the 1965 Federal Scnice Entrance<br />
Examination, the U. S. Civil Service<br />
Commission has announced. The examtnation,<br />
open to college seniors and graduates<br />
regardless <strong>of</strong> major study, <strong>of</strong>fers the<br />
opportunity to begin a career in the<br />
federal ser\*ice in one <strong>of</strong> over 200 kinds<br />
<strong>of</strong> positions. These positions are located<br />
in various federal agencies both in Washington,<br />
D. C, and throughout the United<br />
States. A few overseas positions will also<br />
be filled.<br />
Depending on the qualifications <strong>of</strong> the<br />
candidates, starting salaries for persons<br />
appointed from this examination will be<br />
$5,000 and 6,050 a year. A ^vritten test<br />
is required, except for those candidates<br />
who have attained a sufficiently high<br />
score on the Graduate Record Examination<br />
Aptitude Test. Six tests have been<br />
scheduled. The closing date is April 15,<br />
1965.<br />
A limited number <strong>of</strong> Management Internships<br />
with starting salaries <strong>of</strong> $6,050<br />
and $7,<strong>22</strong>0 a year will also be filled from<br />
this examination. An additional written<br />
test is required and additional education<br />
or experience is required for the positions<br />
paying $7,<strong>22</strong>0 a year. Applicants for these<br />
positions must ffle by January 21, 1965,<br />

NEAL LAMPING received his master <strong>of</strong> science<br />
from Ohio State U. in late August.<br />
ED RlCCIUn has been appointed an Advanced<br />
Science Writing Fellow for the 1964-65 academic<br />
year at Columbia U.*s Graduate School <strong>of</strong> Journalism.<br />
He will receive stipends and tuition for<br />
nine months while attending any course relating<br />
to his individual program.<br />
Ed has written a series on the use <strong>of</strong> animals in<br />
scientific research and wen a special atation fnxn<br />
the Animal Care Panel. Ed was the first recipient<br />
<strong>of</strong> this citation. The scries was reprinted in booklet<br />
form and widely circulated by I^erle I.aboratories.<br />
1/tt. GEORGE AVILSON has been awarded<br />
the US.\F Air Medal for meritorious achievement<br />
during aerial flights in support <strong>of</strong> the fight<br />
against communist aggression in Viet Nam. George,<br />
a pilot, flies with Vietnamese Mr Force crews to<br />
assist and ad%'ise them on combat tactics ag^nst<br />
the Viet Conif.<br />
MARTIN McGINN was appointed food specialist<br />
for .Atlas Chemical Industries Inc., with headquarters<br />
in Chicago. For the past year he has been<br />
technical correspondent, also in the Chicago area.<br />
ALEX CAMERON has Joined the faculty <strong>of</strong> the<br />
English dept. at the U. <strong>of</strong> Dayton. Alex has taught<br />
at ND since '61 and is a candidate for a doctorate<br />
here.<br />
DAVE HOSINSKI has been appointed a trust<br />
<strong>of</strong>ficer <strong>of</strong> the St. Joseph Bank & Trust Co. Dave<br />
has been admitted to practice law before the US<br />
courts <strong>of</strong> Indiana.<br />
JIM GRIFFIN has joined Socony Mobil Oil Co.'s<br />
public relations dept. as assoc. editor <strong>of</strong> the employee<br />
newspaper, Mobil World. Jim was a reporter<br />
on ncAvspapers in Elkhart, Ind., South<br />
Bend, Bayonnc, N.J., and Ghana. West Africa,<br />
before joining Community Counselling Ser\*ice in<br />
'63.<br />
1/Lt. ROBERT ROBBEN has entered USAF<br />
pilot training at Reese AFB, Tex., and will fly the<br />
newest AF jet trainers and receive special academic<br />
and military training during the year-long course.<br />
RUDY HORNISH, staff writer for the Prudential<br />
Ins. Co. <strong>of</strong> America's public relations and advertising<br />
dept. for the past year, has been promoted<br />
to asst. editor. Rudy has a master's degree from<br />
Seton Hall.<br />
Dr. AL COOKE was graduated in June from<br />
Jefferson Medical College <strong>of</strong> Philadelphia.<br />
A large group <strong>of</strong> '59ers were awarded their master's<br />
in business administration from Harvard U.<br />
on June H. These included: TOM CLAHIL, JOE<br />
COLLINS, FIUNCIS GR.AH.AAf, BILL REILLY<br />
and RICHARD RYAN. At the same time and<br />
place JIM SHORT received his LLB.<br />
Our s>*mpathy to Mr. and Mrs. DANIEL R.<br />
O'CONNOR JR. on the death <strong>of</strong> their infant<br />
daughter. Mary Brenna was bom May 27 in<br />
Baltimore and died Sept. 18.<br />
