Defense Command c<strong>of</strong>Tco cup in special recognition<br />

at Stead AFB, Ncv., for his submission <strong>of</strong> a military'<br />

improvement suggestion that will result in cost<br />

reductions and more efficient operations. He also<br />

received a cash award for developing and suggesting<br />

a method <strong>of</strong> simplifying the administrative duties <strong>of</strong><br />

ADC's electronic warfare training units.<br />

JOE SIMERI has been admitted to the practice<br />

<strong>of</strong> law before the Indiana Supreme Court and has<br />

joined a law firm in South Bend, lie received his<br />

juris doctor from Northwestern U. Law School last<br />

June and was recipient <strong>of</strong> the Wigmore Key,<br />

awarded annually to one member <strong>of</strong> the senior class<br />

who has done the most for the Law School and<br />

towards preser\*ing its traditions.<br />

WHITE HOUSE FELLOWS<br />

President Lyndon Johnson annoiinccd<br />

in October the establishment <strong>of</strong> the White<br />

House Fellows. The Fellows will be<br />

named by the President on the recommendation<br />

<strong>of</strong> a distinguished Commission<br />

on White House Fellows headed by David<br />

Rockefeller.<br />

The purpose <strong>of</strong> the program is to give<br />

the Fellows firsthand, high-level experience<br />

with the workings <strong>of</strong> the federal<br />

government and to increase their sense <strong>of</strong><br />

participation in national affairs. It is not<br />

a college or a scholarly program. The<br />

Fellows will have completed their education<br />

and a number <strong>of</strong> them will be well<br />

into their careers. They will be chosen<br />

from business, law, journalism, the universities,<br />

architecture, or other occupations.<br />

Each will have demonstrated high<br />

moral character, exceptional ability,<br />

marked leadership qualities, and unusual<br />

promise <strong>of</strong> future development.<br />

There will be 15 White House Fellows<br />

and they will ser\*e for 15 months. One<br />

Fellow will be assigned to the <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong><br />

the Vice-President; one to each Cabinet<br />

<strong>of</strong>ficer; and four to members <strong>of</strong> the White<br />

House staff. In addition to their daily<br />

work, the Fellows will take part in seminars<br />

and other activities especially planned<br />

to ad\*ance the purposes <strong>of</strong> the<br />

program.<br />

Each Fellow will go on leave from his<br />

present occupation. He will receive a<br />

base salary <strong>of</strong> $7,500 - $12,000 depending<br />

upon age, plus other increments for family<br />

responsibilities. The program is being supported<br />

by a grant from the Carnegie<br />

Foundation.<br />

All Fellows must be 23 to 35 years old;<br />

.\merican citizens; and graduates <strong>of</strong> an<br />

accredited. four-year college. Women as<br />

well as men and local, state, and federal<br />

government employees are eligible. The<br />

deadline for applications is December 15,<br />

1964. The Fellows will be announced in<br />

the spring <strong>of</strong> 1965 and begin their 15month<br />

period on or about June 1, 1965.<br />

vou about you, yours and other golden-domers. From<br />

Ft. Riley way 1st Lt. BILL CHOQUETTE sent a<br />

newsy letter this summer. Bachelor Bill served in<br />

Germany for ten months before getting a \'acation<br />

in the Mojave Desert, where he participated for<br />

three months in Operation Desert Strike. Bill was<br />

best man for RAY SHEA and Rita Morrel, who were<br />

married last summer. Ray and AL MANISCALCO<br />

are in their third year at N.Y. Med. College, where<br />

both have made the dean's list.<br />

Ens. HAROLD "H" ORTHMEYER USNR wrote<br />

one <strong>of</strong> his t>'pical comical letters explaining his past<br />

activities. Presently **H" is a second year denial<br />

student at Ohio State. He writes that Ens. JOE<br />

TfVNNIAN is working with the legal corps somewhere<br />

in Florida. IVAN GRADISAR was married<br />

this past summer and continues his medical studies<br />

at Ohio State; MIKE GUARNIERI is doing srad<br />

studies in either biochemistry or anatomy at Ohio<br />

State, and JIM NOCE is at Catholic U. working for<br />

his Ph.D in psychology. Congratulations to GEORGE<br />

<strong>GA</strong>UTHIER on his marriage to Frances Joy Steenbcrgen<br />

on June 27, \9&t. George will get his PhJ><br />

in organic cjiem in June 1966 from the U. <strong>of</strong> Ne%v<br />

Tribune. John ivriles from his. pad in the Marina<br />

Towers that RICH J.^LOVEC married Mary Ann<br />

Josh on Sept. 5 and has only one year left at<br />

Northwestern Law School; TOM HATCH has a<br />

leave <strong>of</strong> absence from General Foods and is pursuing<br />

his .MBA at the U. <strong>of</strong> Chicago.<br />

JACK HAYFORD is back with Ernst and Ernst<br />

after six months in San Franrtsco with the Coast<br />

Guard. Congratulations, Jack, on your marriage to<br />

Barbara McGann in Oswego, N.Y., on Oct. 10,<br />

Chicago as a salesman for Union Carbide. ANDY<br />

Wise. BILL WEINSHEIMER has announced<br />

his engagement to Roberta Limarqi (SMC '63); they<br />

plan to be married in June after Bill finishes law<br />

school at Northwestern. FRANK MOOR^LAN and<br />

Andersen, the same accounting firm as RICH<br />

US Naval .\cademy last summer while Terry attended<br />

Zone, Europe. His wife Bette is overseas with<br />

him. 1/Lt. JOHN MGGRATH, an electronic warfare<br />

onicer instructor, has completed the rigorous<br />

USAF Survival and Special Training School at<br />
