Mechanical Engineering
Course highlights
A particular strength of the
Mechanical Engineering program
at JCU is the application of
advanced computational
techniques. Mechanical
Engineering applies the principles
of physics for analysis, design,
manufacturing, and maintenance
of everything you think of as a
machine – from bicycles to robots
to supersonic jets. Mechanical
Engineers design, create and
improve systems and machinery
used for domestic, public and
industrial purposes.
Career opportunities
Mechanical Engineers work in
industries that design systems
and machinery to generate power,
make products, move things or
help in building. They may also
work in the automotive industry, in
manufacturing, building services,
the aeronautical industry, defence
technology, chemical processing,
power generation, food processing
and public utilities.
A selection of subjects for this
major include
• Thermofluid Mechanics
• Dynamics of Machine Elements
• Materials Science and
Engineering
• Engineering Project
Management
• Fluid Mechanics
• Automatic Control
• Mechanical Design
• Bulk Materials Handling
Diploma of
Introductory
Engineering Studies
This is a one-year course of
introductory engineering and
mathematics subjects. Successful
completion may lead to entry
to JCU’s Bachelor of Engineering
depending on subjects studied.
Students will be eligible for credit
towards the first year of the
Bachelor of Engineering after
successful completion.
