degree is offered by JCU’s School
of Earth and Environmental
Sciences. The course places a

science. Emphasis is on practical
experience with a strong field
work component. Students have
access to outstanding facilities
and natural environments,
including JCU’s Orpheus Island
Research Station, James Kirby
research vessel, research
aquarium, laboratories, the
coral reefs of the Great Barrier
Reef, and seagrass beds and
mangroves. Graduates are
eligible to join the Australian
Marine Science Association, the
Australian Coral Reef Society,
and numerous other professional
bodies.
