The Bachelor of Speech Pathology
with Honours (Graduate
Entry) is available to recently
graduated and experienced
speech pathologists that have not
already completed an in-course
honours degree.
Bachelor of Sport
And Exercise
Science
JCU’s Institute of Sport and
Exercise Science houses a full
range of technical facilities and
equipment, including a heat
and humidity chamber and
modern Movement Analysis
Laboratory. The Institute
covers exercise testing and
prescription, sport and exercise
physiology, biomechanics, sport
and exercise nutrition, sport
and exercise psychology, and
talent recognition. There is a
specialisation in the impact of
hot and humid conditions on
sport, exercise and health-related
issues. The Institute collaborates
closely with the Australian
Defence Force, and undertakes
joint applied research with the
Australian Institute of Sport.
Graduates are eligible to apply for
accreditation with the Australian
Association for Exercise and
Sports Science (AAESS).
This degree can be taken as a
joint degree with the Bachelor of
Education or the Bachelor
of Business.
Course highlights
Students complete 140 hours of
practical placement to develop
their personal and professional
skills within a range of settings
including local community
centres, service academies, elite
sporting academies such as the
Australian Institute of Sport,
corporate health and fitness
programs, and local school and
sporting teams.
Career opportunities
Graduates have a diverse range
of depending on their interests
and further studies. These
include: teaching and coaching
in educational, sporting or
recreational settings, sporting
teams or corporations; research
and development; sports
manufacturing; corporate
health and fitness; roles within
government agencies associated
with sport, physical activity and
health; and sports academies.

Bachelor of
Veterinary Science
Veterinarians play a major role
in the health care of livestock,
companion animals, zoo animals
and sporting and laboratory
animals. The School of Veterinary
and Biomedical Sciences has
extensive research expertise in
tropical animal and veterinary
science. Facilities include teaching
laboratories, the JCU Veterinary
Emergency Centre and Hospital,
JCU’s tropical research cattle
station “Fletcherview” at Charters
Towers and the JCU Tableland
Veterinary Teaching Resource
Centre at Malanda. Students gain
the skills to diagnose, treat and
prevent diseases in pets, livestock,
aquatic species and native fauna.
Students also acquire a thorough
knowledge of animal production
systems, particularly tropical
animal husbandry and aquaculture.
The program is accredited by the
Australasian Veterinary Boards
Council and graduates are eligible
for professional registration with
all veterinary boards in Australia
and New Zealand. JCU’s separate

Course highlights
Students complete a series
of clinical placements and
extramural practical work,
where they learn about various
animal industries and experience
the broad range of clinical
care. Students have full access
to state-of-the-art teaching
facilities, including a new
Emergency Veterinary Centre
and Hospital on the Townsville
campus. A specialist large
animal treatment facility on
the Tablelands provides clinical
experience and training for final
year students.
Career opportunities
The range of employment
opportunities for veterinarians is
diverse and can include: clinical
work in private practices as
small animal practitioners or
rural practitioners; government
positions involving animal disease
control and animal production;
and livestock inspection and
quarantine. Graduates can also
enter higher degree studies
for careers in pharmaceutical
research, biomedical and animal
nutrition industries, biosecurity,
agricultural agencies and human
health areas.
