The close proximity of Cairns to natural
attractions like the Great Barrier Reef and
the Daintree Rainforest give rise to a thriving
business in international visitors. Students
looking for part-time work during their studies
in Cairns will find a variety of part-time jobs
available in tourism, hospitality, retail sales
and business administration, with many
employers valuing part-time workers with
foreign language skills.

The Campus
The James Cook University Cairns campus
combines a spectacular natural setting with
modern and innovative teaching facilities.
The campus is located at the foot of
rainforest-covered mountains, 15 kilometres
(approximately 9 miles) north of the city
centre and near the popular northern beaches
suburbs. The campus is served by regular buses
to the city centre and the nearby Smithfield
shopping centre and residential areas.
With over 4,000 students enrolled, including
more than 400 international students, the
campus offers the latest teaching and learning
facilities with new developments including a
$30 million, state-of-the-art teaching facility
for dentistry and a similar signature facility for
the Cairns Institute.
The Cairns campus offers a range of activities
and facilities for students including

Students enjoy small classes and a friendly
