The PE department has been very busy this spring. Have you seen our spring cleaning and beautification of our
PE area? Students from the art club and Mrs. Sherwin’s class helped paint murals for our equipment shed.
On Earth Day, April 22 nd , we celebrated the earth by planting trees around our PE field. Coach Vollinger
headed up this program. Each 5 th grade class planted a tree with Coach Vollinger. A big thank you goes to Chase and
Abby Burnett’s dad for donating the trees to Tomoka Elementary.
Our Tomoka students have been representing us very well in area fitness festivals, track meets and community
5k races. It’s wonderful to see young athletes competing and enjoying being fit. Nikki Schedivy (a 2 nd grader in Ms.
Music’s class) won her age division in the Daytona Beach Easter Beach run. Dennis Filipovski won 1 st place in the
softball throw at the Hersey’s District Track and Field event. Steffan Mallory won 2 nd place in the softball throw.
Steffan also went on to win 1 st place in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and 4x100 relay. They both qualify to compete in
the State track meet this summer in Miami, FL.
The Tomoka Mile Event was an exciting event the whole school came out to watch. We had more students
qualify to be in the mile run this year than in the past 3 years. Our Tomoka students are getting stronger, faster and
tough competition for area schools.
