SENSATIONAL SECOND GRADERS…
It is hard to believe that Our Sensational Second Graders are ready for third grade! We
have learned so many exciting things this year. Learning about the Native Americans at the
Pioneer Art Settlement and visiting with the manatees at Blue Spring State Park were
among the highlights.
We will culminate the year with Field Day on May 14 th and Dinosaur Day on June 4 th . We will
need volunteers, so please mark your calendars.
Our last units in math are measurement and fractions. Science lessons will include the
dinosaur study and even a story in our reading book about how they travel. Florida will be
the final topic of study for Social Studies.
All of the second grade teachers request that our students practice reading a book, writing
complete paragraphs, and complete math word problems and computation problems during
the summer vacation. It would be a great idea to make a summer writing journal to share
with your third grade teacher. Create some math word problems about the exciting events
happening in your family, and best of all, read a book about something you don’t know
anything about!
We will miss our students, but know they all have bright futures ahead of them at Tomoka
Elementary or wherever their education takes them.
TERRIFIC THIRD GRADERS…
Third graders have experienced a busy, fun-filled month. First, we all enjoyed a trip to the
Peabody Center to see Charlotte’s Web. It was a standing room only show and the children
were excited to be in a theater setting. Students were able to compare and contrast the
different approaches to the story taken by the author in the original book, the two movies
and the play. Next we’re off to the Sanford Zoo on May 5 th . This is a wonderful
opportunity for the students to not only enjoy the beautiful zoo, but also do some hands on
learning about reptiles, mammals and amphibians. Our classes celebrated earth day in a
variety of ways and we hope those lessons carry over into daily life.
We ask that you help your child remember that school is not yet over, even though the year
is winding down. It’s important to stay focused and keep trying to do their best work.
There is a lot left to learn this year!
