Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am very pleased to attend the Opening Ceremony of
Vietnam Saigon Textile and Garment Industry Expo 2009.
First of all, on behalf of HCMC People’s Committee, I
would like to welcome distinguished guests, textile and
garment enterprises, local and international business
partners to the Opening Ceremony of the Vietnam Saigon
Textile and Garment Industry Exp 2009.
Textile and garment business plays an important role in export performance of HCMC. For recent
years, despite all the difficulties, the business enterprises have made every effort to achieve
encouraging results.
2008 presents a lot of difficulties owing to global inflation. However, local enterprises under the
leadership of HCMC People’s Committee have made a great effort. As the result of that, the city’s
export growth rate reached 16%, in which textile and garment business enjoyed a growth rate of
0.6%. Many textile and garment products have acquire well-known names in the local market and
are displayed in the Vietnam Fashion Trade Fair.
Vietnam Saigon Textile and Garment Industry Expo 2009 is an event attracting a lof of attention
of the municipal authority and people. The exhibition is a venue for textile and garment enterprises
to seek for new equipment and technologies to develop high quality products. The exhibition is
also an opportunity for enterprises to seek for equipment, machinery and technologies to develop
local sources of materials and accessories for the textile and garment business.
I highly value the efforts of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam Textile and Apparal
Association, Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Vietnam National Textile and
Garment Group, CP Exhibition Hongkong. I hope the exhibition will attract a lot of attention of
governmental departments and agencies, the municipal People’s Committee, local and overseas
enterprises, and consumers in order to make the exhibition to become a prestigious venue for
Vietnamese textile and garment enterprises.

At opening ceremony of the expo 10:00 am, 7 April 2009
First of all, allow me on behalf of the Vietnam National
Textile and Garment Group to express our warm
welcome and sincere thanks to all distinguished guests,
exhibitors, local and international enterprises for
attending the Opening Ceremony of the 19th Vietnam
Saigon Textile & Garment Industry Expo 2009 in Ho Chi
Minh City. The Exhibition is sponsored by the Ministry
of Industry and Trade, the Vietnam Textile and Apparel
Association (Vitas), and is co-organized by the Vietnam
Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Vietnam
National Textile and Garment Group, and CP Exhibition
Hong Kong.
The exhibition is displayed on an area of 6000 m2, and attracts 305 companies from 24 countries,
who attend this exhibition to present equipment, materials and accessories for the textile and
garment industry of Vietnam and the region. This is an opportunity for textile and garment
enterprises to visit, to learn about new technologies, and to purchase state-of-the-art equipment.
Export revenue of Vietnam textile and garment industry in 2008 reached USD 9.1 billion and that
of USD10 billion is targeted for the year 2009. This is a big challenge for Vietnam textile and
garment industry, given the world’s increasingly fierce competition. To provide high-quality
textile and garment products, Vietnam textile and garment business attaches considerable
importance to the investment in modern equipment and technologies. This in turn will help
domestic textile and garment enterprises have more independent sources of materials and
accessories, given that Vietnam’s textile and garment industry is one of the country’s major
industries, which provides employment for nearly 2 million people and is expected to be the first
largest export category in 2009.
On this occasion, I would like to express sincere thanks to leaders of the Ministry of Industry and
Trade, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the People’s Committee of Hanoi City, the
People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, leaders of the other provinces and cities, governmental
agencies and organizations, foreign missions in Vietnam, Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and
Industry, domestic and international trade partners, central and local mass media for sparing your
precious time with us to attend this opening ceremony.

On behalf of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and
Industry (VCCI), I would like to warmly welcome
distinguished guests, national and int’l exhibiting companies
to the Opening Ceremony of the 19th Vietnam Saigon
Textile & Garment Industry Expo 2009.
Ladies and Gentlemen, Textile and garment is one of the
country’s key industries and the country’s spearhead
manufacturing industry that has potential for growth and has
had substantial contribution to Vietnam’s export growth rate
while offering large-scale employment. With distinct advantages such as attracting a large amount
of workers, having opportunities to expand domestic and overseas markets, textile and garment
enterprises are making every effort to invest in new technologies, improve product quality, reduce
cost price in order to make them more competitive in domestic and export markets.
Ladies and Gentlemen, This year presents a lot of difficulties and challenges for enterprises,
especially for those in textile and garment business. Despite these difficulties, we are very pleased
to welcome 305 exhibiting companies at this exhibition. This is a great effort of the companies.
Always considering the success of its member its own success, in 2009 VCCI with its position at
the local and international level continues developing its activities professionally in order to
strengthen its support for its members. VCCI is going to carry out the National Trade Promotion
Programme and assist its member enterprises in their searching for new export markets with
specific trade promotion activities such as organizing exhibitions and trade fairs, giving trade
information, delivering training courses etc…
With 19 exhibitions, VCCI together with Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group and CP
Exhibition Hong Kong have made the Textile and Garment Expo to become an important event in
the industry. This is the forum for the industry enterprises to keep updated with development
strategies and orientation, and to find more sources of equipment, materials and accessories to
increase the localization ratio and the profit share. Therefore, given the fierce competition in the
world, this event illustrates its increasingly enormous importance to the industry enterprises.

of other activities such as AFTEX Round Table Meeting, I hope Vietnamese enterprises will have
