Water beetles (Dytiscidae)<br />

The ANHAT database has 1888 records for 123 species and subspecies of Dytiscidae. No<br />

species of Dytiscidae are considered ext<strong>in</strong>ct.<br />

There are 17 Dytiscidae species that account for approximately 50% of the total Dytiscid<br />

species records <strong>in</strong> ANHAT. These species have over 30 records each.<br />

Seventy-three species had 10 or fewer <strong>in</strong>dividual record sites <strong>in</strong> the ANHAT database (Table<br />

77). Of those species, none are listed as threatened. These species have been excluded from<br />

analysis but are <strong>in</strong>cluded here for reference. Exclusion of these poorly recorded species<br />

elim<strong>in</strong>ates 220 records. These species occur across all of Australia, with 25 species<br />

occurr<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> only one State or Territory and the rema<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g species occurr<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> at least one<br />

other State or Territory. Only one species had habitat details available. However, all species<br />

are aquatic and so are associated with water bodies of some type.<br />
