AR 242. Fibers – 3 hours. Traditional papermaking techniques,<br />

weaving, macramé, and fiber sculpture. Required for all art<br />

education majors. $50 fee. Spring odd years.<br />

AR 301. Art History I - 3 hours. Prehistoric to Renaissance.<br />

Illustrated lectures on the history of Western and Mediterranean<br />

art, including sculpture, architecture, minor arts, and painting. WI<br />

Fall odd years.<br />

AR 310. Art History II - 3 hours. Art history of Western art<br />

from the Renaissance to World War I with emphasis on major<br />

movements and personalities in western Europe and the United<br />

States. WI Prerequisite: AR 301. Spring odd years.<br />

AR 315. Illustration I – 3 hours. Techniques and media used<br />

in the production of drawings for commercial purposes. $5 fee.<br />

Fall.<br />

AR 316. Printmaking – 3 hours. This course is designed to<br />

acquaint the student to the historical origins and development of<br />

printmaking methods; monoprints, relief, and screen printing.<br />

Prerequisite: AR 100. $50 fee. Spring even years.<br />

AR 320. Photography II – 3 hours. Introduction to approaches<br />

and techniques of digital imaging with specific emphasis on the<br />

use of Adobe Photoshop. The course explores the technical and<br />

aesthetic potential of digital photography in both graphic design<br />

and fine art. Students must have a digital camera. $25<br />

fee. Prerequisite: AR120. Fall.<br />

AR 330. Figure Drawing - 3 hours. Continued experience in<br />

drawing, emphasizing work from the model. Prerequisite: AR<br />

100 or 212. $50.00 lab fee. Spring.<br />

AR 331. Painting I - 3 hours. Introduction to oil painting<br />

emphasizing studio practices, fundamental principles and<br />

techniques. Prerequisite: AR 100 or AR 212 or permission.<br />

$25.00 lab fee. Fall odd years.<br />

AR 332. Sculpture II – 3 hours. A problem-solving studio<br />

course in sculpture design focusing on self portraiture, the figure<br />

and abstraction. Some lecture periods. Prerequisite: AR 232.<br />

$35 lab fee. Fall odd years.<br />

AR 334. Ceramics II - 3 hours. Continuation of AR 224,<br />

stressing design concepts and experimentation. Focuses on<br />

wheel throwing techniques and basic firing methods. Some handbuilding<br />

included. $50.00 lab fee. Prerequisite: AR 224. Spring.<br />

AR 335. Graphic Design II – 3 hours. Advanced techniques<br />

using paint software and illustration software with emphasis on<br />

merging programs to combine images. Prerequisite: AR 235 with<br />

a grade of “C” or better. $50 fee. Spring even years.<br />

AR 337. Animation – 3 hours. A studio course in computer<br />

animation using a variety of software programs and techniques<br />

with an emphasis on creative output. Prerequisite: Art major and<br />

AR 112. $20 lab fee. Spring odd years.<br />

AR 344. Watercolor - 3 hours. Introduction to basic watercolor<br />

techniques, still life and landscape, and other subject matter.<br />

$10.00 lab fee. Prerequisite: AR 100 or AR 212 or permission.<br />

Fall even years.<br />

AR 345. Painting II - 3 hours. Further problems in a variety of<br />

painting techniques. Prerequisite: AR 331. Spring odd years.<br />

AR 350. Advanced Studio – 3 hours. Independent study in<br />

Ceramics 3, Painting 3, Photography 3, Drawing 3, Sculpture 3 or<br />

Graphic Design 3. May be repeated in different media areas.<br />

Permission of the instructor. Arranged.<br />

AR 376/476. Independent Study - 1-3 hours. Reading or<br />

research at a greater depth than is permitted in a normal class.<br />

Permission of the instructor, division dean, and Chief Academic<br />

Officer.<br />

AR 401. Graphic Design Internship – 1-3 hours. Professional<br />

graphic design experience in a company setting. Six to eight<br />

week internship work is to be complete at an approved company.<br />

May be repeated for credit for a maximum of 6 credit hours.<br />

Prerequisite: Permission of department.<br />

AR 405. Art History III – 3 hours. A history of art from World<br />

War I to the present with an emphasis on major international<br />

movements in painting, sculpture, architecture and new media.<br />

WI Prerequisite: AR 310. Fall even years.<br />

AR 410. The Business of Art – 3 hours. Introduction to<br />

traditional business with specialized topics including: art law,<br />

structure and mechanistic of the art market, art evaluation and<br />

criticism. Business training including: finance and art investing,<br />

art evaluation, gallery ownership and representation.<br />

Prerequisite: Junior or Senior Art major or permission of<br />

instructor. Spring even years.<br />

AR 450. Advanced Studio – 3 hours. Independent study in<br />

Ceramics 4, Painting 4, Photography 4, Drawing 4, Sculpture 4 or<br />

Graphic Design 4. May be repeated in different media areas.<br />

Permission of the instructor. Prerequisite: AR 350. Arranged.<br />

AR 490. Senior Portfolio - 3 hours. Required of all art majors<br />

during their final semester of their senior year. Allows art majors<br />

to assemble and present representative work in their major field.<br />

Prerequisite: Art major, senior standing, permission of instructor.<br />

Arranged.<br />

ATHLETIC TRAINING MAJOR<br />

Mission: The <strong>Missouri</strong> <strong>Valley</strong> <strong>College</strong> Athletic Training program<br />

is committed to providing personalized and diverse classroom<br />

experiences and clinical opportunities designed to prepare<br />

Athletic Training students for careers as certified athletic trainers.<br />

Embedded throughout the curriculum, students are challenged to<br />

develop intellectually and become professionally engaged so that<br />

they may master the skills and knowledge necessary to become<br />

effective and successful practitioners eligible to sit for the Board<br />

of Certification (BOC) examination.<br />

Learning Outcomes:<br />

Domain 1. Injury Prevention: the entry-level certified athletic<br />

trainer must possess an understanding of risk management<br />

and injury prevention and must demonstrate the necessary<br />

skills to plan and implement prevention strategies.<br />

Domain 2. Clinical Evaluation and Diagnosis: the entry-level<br />

certified athletic trainer must possess the ability clinically to<br />

examine and diagnose a patient for the purpose of<br />

identifying (a) common acquired or congenital risk factors<br />

that would predispose the patient to injury and (b)<br />

musculoskeletal orthopedic injuries to determine proper<br />

care, including the referral of the patient to other health care<br />

providers when appropriate.<br />

Domain 3. Immediate Care of Injuries and Illnesses: the<br />

entry-level certified athletic trainer must recognize, assess,<br />

and treat patients with acute injuries and illnesses and must<br />

provide appropriate medical referral.<br />

Domain 4. Treatment, Rehabilitation, and Reconditioning:<br />

the entry-level certified athletic trainer must plan, implement,<br />
