After the on-site interview, applicant scores are placed<br />

into the above formula and a percentile is computed. It<br />

is this final percentile in which individuals are ranked<br />

and selected from. If an individuals’ final score is below<br />

the 50 th percentile s/he may not be offered a position<br />

within the <strong>Missouri</strong> <strong>Valley</strong> <strong>College</strong> ATEP regardless of<br />

space availability.<br />

Individuals will be notified no later than April 1 st of their<br />

admission status (accepted, wait listed, or declined).<br />

Those individuals who are accepted must<br />

officially accept or decline their position.<br />

If an accepted individual declines their<br />

position, an individual on the wait list (who<br />

meets the criteria) may be offered the<br />

available position.<br />

If an accepted individual fails to meet the<br />

entry-requirements after the conclusion of the<br />

spring semester, an individual on the “wait<br />

list” (who meets the criteria) may be offered<br />

the available position OR the accepted<br />

individual maybe given the opportunity during<br />

the summer semester to meet the entryrequirements<br />

(as determined by the Program<br />

Director).<br />

If an individual is declined admission into the<br />

<strong>Missouri</strong> <strong>Valley</strong> ATEP s/he will not be offered<br />

a position regardless of availability.<br />

AL <strong>13</strong>0. Introduction to Athletic Training - 3 hours. An entry<br />

level course designed to introduce the student to the athletic<br />

training profession and the MVC athletic training education<br />

program. The student will become familiar with the role and<br />

function of an athletic trainer as a member of the sports medicine<br />

team, the history of the profession, employment opportunities,<br />

certification requirements, and state practice acts. This course will<br />

also introduce the students to basic medical terminology, the<br />

principles of prevention and treatment of athletic injuries, and<br />

provide the student the opportunity to observe the MVC athletic<br />

training staff in the athletic training facility. This course is a<br />

prerequisite for application to the MVC athletic training education<br />

program. Fall. Course Lab fee: $10.00<br />

AL 201. Clinical I - 1 hour. The first in a series of clinical based<br />

courses in which athletic training students will observe and<br />

provide health care under the direct supervision of an ACI or CI.<br />

The athletic training student performs 3, 5-week clinical rotations<br />

(minimum of 50 hours) during the semester in a variety of health<br />

care settings including but not limited to: collegiate athletics, high<br />

school athletics, general medical and clinical based. Athletic<br />

training students will complete the assigned athletic training<br />

education competencies. This course requires the students’<br />

attendance at in-service training sessions which begin<br />

approximately 2 weeks before the official start of classes.<br />

Prerequisite: Admission to the Athletic Training Education<br />

Program. Fall. Course lab fee: $25<br />

AL 202. Clinical II - 1 hour. The second in a series of clinically<br />

based courses in which athletic training students observe and<br />

provide health care under the direct supervision of an ACI or CI.<br />

The athletic training student performs 3, 5-week clinical rotations<br />

(minimum of 50 hours) during the semester in a variety of health<br />

care settings including but not limited to: collegiate athletics, high<br />

school athletics, general medical and clinical based. Athletic<br />

training students will complete the assigned athletic training<br />

education competencies. Prerequisites: Admission to the Athletic<br />

Training Education Program. Spring.<br />

If accepted, you must complete and provide the<br />

documentation described on and in accordance with the<br />

Annual Forms and Documentation Policy.<br />

Retention & Academic / Clinical Probation Policy<br />

In order for an Athletic Training Student to remain in good<br />

standing within the <strong>Missouri</strong> <strong>Valley</strong> <strong>College</strong> Athletic Training<br />

Education Program, s/he must satisfy all program requirements<br />

as outlined in ATEP Handbook.<br />

Major requirements: AL <strong>13</strong>0, AL 201, AL 202, AL 230, AL 303,<br />

AL 304, AL 333, AL 335, AL 340, AL 355, AL 358, AL 360, AL<br />

405, AL 406, AL 450, AL 480, BI 275, BI 285, BI 350, EX 307,<br />

EX 320, EX 334, EX 335, EX 385, EX 400, HE 140, HE 260, MA<br />

200, NU 150, NU 435, PE 221, PE 233, PY 100. (Total 91<br />

hours.)<br />

Major Assessment: Seniors are required to take the in-house<br />

Athletic Training Assessment exam during their Senior<br />

Seminar course. The exit exam will consist of questions<br />

obtained from the courses required of the athletic training<br />

major.<br />

AL 230. Techniques of Taping - 2 hours. This course is<br />

designed to teach the student a variety of taping, wrapping,<br />

padding, and bracing techniques for the various musculoskeletal<br />

injuries that occur to the physically active. Spring. Course Lab fee:<br />

$75.00<br />

AL 303. Clinical III - 2 hours. The third in a series of clinically<br />

based courses in which athletic training students observe and<br />

provide health care under the direct supervision of an ACI or CI.<br />

The athletic training student performs two clinical rotations (7<br />

weeks and 8 weeks) during the semester for a minimum of 100<br />

hours in a variety of health care settings including but not limited<br />

to: collegiate athletics, high school athletics, general medical,<br />

clinic-based, and orthopedic surgery. Athletic training students<br />

will complete the assigned athletic training education<br />

competencies. This course requires the students’ attendance at<br />

in-service training sessions which begin approximately 2 weeks<br />

before the official start of classes. Prerequisite: Admission to the<br />

Athletic Training Education Program. Fall. Course lab fee: $25<br />

AL 304. Clinical IV- 2 hours. The fourth in a series of clinically<br />

based courses in which athletic training students observe and<br />

provide health care under the direct supervision of an ACI or CI.<br />

The athletic training student performs two clinical rotations (7<br />

weeks and 8 weeks) during the semester for a minimum of 100<br />

hours in a variety of health care settings including but not limited<br />

to: collegiate athletics, high school athletics, general medical,<br />

clinic-based, and orthopedic surgery. Athletic training students<br />

will complete the assigned athletic training education<br />

competencies. Prerequisite: Admission to the Athletic Training<br />
