D District Policing Plan 2009-2010 - Police Service of Northern Ireland

Foreword by Newtownabbey DPP Chairman
The objectives and targets contained in this Local Policing Plan reflect the
priorities identified by Newtownabbey District Policing Partnership through
speaking with a broad section of people in the Borough. The DPP will be
monitoring the performance of the local police in meeting the targets set.
We will also be doing our outmost, with the support of the community, to
help reduce the number of crimes in Newtownabbey through encouraging
practical steps that can be taken to promote personal safety and
safeguarding property.
It is important for the DPP that it continues to listen to the needs, fears and
expectation of the community and to relay these to the district commander
so that issues of concern are raised at the earliest opportunity and
appropriate action taken.
It is vitally important for the police service to work in partnership with the
community to develop a strong relationship that will inspire confidence and
reduce the fear of crime. Accordingly I will endeavour, as chair of the DPP,
to promote and encourage such a relationship.

I am pleased to present the Newtownabbey Area Policing Plan, which sets
out the main policing objectives for Newtownabbey for the period 1st April
2009 to 31st March 2010.
The Plan was developed following extensive consultation with
Newtownabbey District Policing Partnership and takes cognisance of the
findings of local surveys to ensure that the views of the Newtownabbey
public are reflected in the targets that have been set.
This plan continues to focus on crimes that impact on quality of life,
improving service delivery and enhancing visibility on the streets thereby
providing reassurance by proactive, community based policing.
I look forward to continuing to work with statutory and voluntary Community
Groups, public representatives and Newtownabbey District Policing
Partnership to ensure that Newtownabbey is a safer place for everyone to
work, visit and live in.
