CALENDAR
OF EVENTS
JUNE 5
Transit of Venus
A transit of Venus across the Sun takes place when the planet Venus
passes directly between the Sun and Earth, becoming visible
against (and hence obscuring a small portion of) the solar disk. The
full transit will be visible from the western Pacific Ocean and adjacent
lands. Viewers in North America will be able to see the start of
the transit on June 5 until sunset.
TUESDAY, JUNE 5
Herb Farmer at Snow Goose Bookstore
Peg Schafer, owner of the Chinese Medicinal Herb Farm near Petaluma,
California, will appear at the Snow Goose Bookstore at 7pm
for a talk about her new book “The Chinese Medicinal Herb Farm: A
Cultivator’s Guide to Small-Scale Organic Herb Production.” Schafer
brings her years of experience and expertise growing traditional
herbs to this first-of-its-kind guide for gardeners and farmers interested
in entering the expanding domestic market for high-quality,
locally-sourced medicinals. A booksigning will follow the talk.
There is no charge for the booktalk, but seating is limited and reservations
are requested. Call (360) 629-3631. 8616 271st Street NW,
Stanwood. Co-sponsored by the NW Asian Medicinal Herb Network,
Slow Food Port Susan, and the Snow Goose Bookstore.
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 6
COMMUNITY FOCUS GROUPS
The Stanwood Community and Senior Center wants to hear ideas
and concerns from seniors, families and caregivers. To determine
the needs, the Center will conduct at least three focus groups on
Wednesday at 10am, 2pm & 6pm in the Social Room of the Center.
Additional focus groups will be scheduled if there is a need. The
Center Board and staff want to explore with community members
the gaps in services. With the number of seniors expanding greatly
in the near future, our community will need to address ways to best
serve our older adults. The Center is located at 7430 276th Street
NW, Stanwood. For more information, contact Colleen Wilcox, Service
Coordinator, at (360) 629-7403 ext. 116.
