11.3 The Clock Tower and Hinde Common

The redesign of this area aims to improve the
entrance in to the park, improve the linkage
between the two park areas, to create an
appropriate setting for the Clock Tower and
create new experiences in the area not found
elsewhere in the park, which will encourage
and increase park users to visit the area.
The design will build on the historical
importance of the Clock Tower, improve its
setting, re-establish its importance as a
gateway in to the park, and create a new,
related use for the old boating lake.
The Following improvements are proposed
Re-establish the Clock tower as an
entranceway in to the park and improve the
setting of the building in to the natural
landscape. Remove the recycling bins and
install disabled parking in front of the building
as well as improving the perimeter railings
Enhance the naturalistic planting either side of
Firth Park Road.
Improve the pedestrian safety along Firth park
road by introducing traffic calming and crossing
points linking in to the park and the footpath
network
Improve vehicle access to the Clock tower and provide areas of off Site Street parking
along Firth Park road by narrowing the highway
Improve the footpath woodland links in Hinde Common Wood to link in to the main Park
footpath network
Explore the feasibility of lighting the clock Tower building at night to act as a local feature
within the area
