RESOURCE MANAGEMENT <strong>2007</strong> GOALS<br />
• Implement Million Dollar Habitat Enhancement Project (s) to restore and preserve ecosystems<br />
frequently used by the public.<br />
• In an effort to add a trophy game fish species to <strong>District</strong> waters, a request has been made to the<br />
Illinois Department <strong>of</strong> Natural Resources Division <strong>of</strong> Fisheries to provide annual stocking <strong>of</strong><br />
Muskellunge to Busse Reservoir beginning in fall <strong>of</strong> <strong>2007</strong>.<br />
• Enhance the <strong>District</strong>’s volunteer programs by assigning an additional Naturalist position to<br />
Volunteer Resources in order to assist with volunteer coordination and outreach.<br />
• Improve the <strong>District</strong>’s Ecological Management program through the addition <strong>of</strong> an Ecologist<br />
position to assist volunteers and staff engaged in land management activities.<br />
• Continue to identify and close illegal trails and map existing trails with Global Imaging Systems<br />
(GIS).<br />
• Continue to implement in-service training programs for <strong>District</strong> staff and volunteers, including;<br />
pesticide use, fire management certification, Arborist Certification, Interpretative Guides<br />
Certification, safe/appropriate use and maintenance <strong>of</strong> equipment and First Aide/CPR.<br />
• Continue to improve and expand outreach environmental education programs such as the Mighty<br />
Acorns Program.<br />
• Continue to improve and expand volunteer stewardship ecosystem management projects.<br />
• Continue to develop the <strong>Preserve</strong> Keepers Corps by expanding both the number <strong>of</strong> high schools<br />
adopting <strong>Preserve</strong>s and the number <strong>of</strong> individual <strong>Preserve</strong> Keepers. In particular, expand<br />
outreach to teachers, school administrators, community groups, scout troops and solicit corporate<br />
participation and sponsorship.<br />
• Implement Phase II <strong>of</strong> United States <strong>Forest</strong> Service Grant.<br />
• Increase the number <strong>of</strong> habitat enhancement projects throughout the <strong>District</strong> by developing<br />
partnerships with state, federal and other conservation agencies.<br />
• Assist in implementing SB83 and Illinois First projects.<br />
