SECOND GRADE
IHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH^
ROUND 3 v CITY (our place)
N
BY
ROB CHAPMAN
City began a fluctuating and exciting game ny electing to bat and were soon 8 for
49 The first fluctuation took them to be all out for 102. Fluctuation two occured
when Peter Neal-Peter Coyle partnership took us to 1 for 59 at 5.30. At six pm Fluctuation
three had us 5 for 66. On the second day the slump continued to see 9 for
77 on the board before Dick Cotton and Rob Chapman put on 47 for the 10th wicket to
steal the points. In their second innings they got to 8 for 104. The highlight of
the second dig was a.certain unnamed City player (his name a household word) threatening
to report all 11 of us the umpires and the passing spectator and his dog to
the ACTCA.
ROUND 4 v NORTHS
(our place again)
Norths called correctly and decided to bat on a placid looking Stirling pitch. They
very soon regretted it with Kiddie Dickie and RC needing only 39 overs and '••.'.some
outstanding close catching to see Norths off for a paltry 68. Interestingly all
ten wickets were either bowled or caught in the slips/gully area. Our reply was statred
rather shakily before Bob Coughlan and Geoff Deacon got ue going with a good
stand. Approaching rain saw us lose a couple wickets before disappointingly finishing
at 6 for 67.
Chapman 5/26, Kidd 3/22
ROUND 5 v GINNINDERRA
(Distant Kaleen)
The new skipper began impressively by losing his first toss and having to ask Copper
and Collits to start. They soon had 44 up before Copper departed for a well compiled
30 just as the big score seemed certain. From then on all batsmen contributed to a
total of 4/116 at tea when the tide came in. On the second day Drewie and Macca batted
with great authority and style to get good 50s to take our score to 7/202.
Ginninderra after a good start were foiled by the irrepressible Laverty to be 9 for
185 at the end.
