Curatorial talks
throughout the year, the Foundation conducted exclusive
viewings for Library supporters. these events are wonderful
occasions for the Library to showcase collection treasures
and display original material too fragile for general exhibition.
our curators and librarians have the opportunity to share their
expertise with enthusiastic Foundation supporters.
in 2008/09, these events covered a wide range of topics:
• the work of famous 16th and 17th century cartographers —
including ortelius, Mercator, Jansson and Blaeu — from the
Library’s extensive map collections
• behind-the-scenes tours of the highly successful exhibition
Bondi Jitterbug: George Caddy and his Camera and the
international premiere of Wisdom
• presentations on our Discover Collections online stories,
covering diverse subjects from the social life and
entertainment on the australian goldfields to botanical
illustrations from 16th century herbals
• talks on the Library’s rare European printed book
collections, with volumes on display such as Fox’s Book
of Martyrs (1563), Shakespeare’s First Folio (1623) and the
Kelmscott Chaucer (1896).
